Abandoned Pit Bull Becomes Police Dog
No one wanted this "high-energy" shelter pit bull who was a "handful," and so he was on the verge of getting euthanized. Then the police force took a chance on him.

As a puppy, Apollo was left at a Washington state animal shelter. Weeks and weeks had gone by, nobody wanted to take Apollo home due to his high-energy personality and the harsh predisposed assumptions that come with adopting a pit bull. Because of this, Apollo was about to be euthanized. A compassionate shelter worker took direct action to fight for the pup’s life by making a phone call to a Washington state narcotics trainer to ask if Apollo was a good fit to become a K-9.

That phone call changed Apollo’s life for the better.

The pup was transferred from the shelter to the kennels at the Department of Corrections where he trained to become a K-9. According to Q13 Fox, despite graduating as the top dog of his narcotics school, Apollo still had to wait an entire year before a police department hired him. When Tukwila Police Department heard Apollo’s story, the pup finally got his big break.

“No one would give him a chance simply because he was a pit bull who often have bad reputations based on misconceptions and lack of training… All he needed was a chance,” Tukwila Police wrote on Facebook.

Against all odds, Apollo got his chance. Both Tukwila Police Department and the world are better off (and cuter) having Apollo as a drug-sniffing K-9. As seen in the video below, the energetic pit bull can be described as loving, sweet and one of the happiest dogs around.

“We decided to give Apollo that chance and we are glad that we did. Apollo finished narcotics school in November of last year and did indeed finish first in his class. He is extremely friendly and can often be found trying to get us to play with him. He has brought great joy to all of us at the department in addition to being a very productive and hard worker. He is now a part of his handlers personal family and the family of the Tukwila Police Department,” Tukwila Police Department shared with Q13 Fox.
