Dogs are just as bad as cats in the sense that they basically just want to be all up in everything. Kind of like how toddlers just won’t leave you alone because you mean that much to them and you’re basically their entire world. Parents to clingy fur babies know this. So does one charming rescue puppy who decided he wanted to try his hand at giving a weather report.

A little background for those wondering what giving a weather report has to do with dogs and their playful, clingy nature: some local news stations very openly welcome adoptable pets to the studio as a way of encouraging viewers to rescue animals from the shelter instead of buying at a pet store. It’s quite a heartwarming strategy and brings quite a few laughs every now and then.

Ripple the pup had more than a cameo during the weather segment. Mike Sobel, a tenured weather specialist for Edmonton’s Global News Morning show is a pro at what he does, even with the occasional furry guests. Being an evident animal lover himself, he’s allowed friendly pets to grace his show every now and then – something we wish all other shows would do, to be honest.

Before jumping to details on the upcoming weather, the reporter gave a short background on his guest, sharing that Ripple was a rescue puppy who was only a year old. Then as Mike began to deliver the weather report, Ripple began to truly act like the puppy he is by frequently tugging on the leash, jumping up, and attempting to get Mike to play with him and basically forget about the weather report.

But work comes first and being the professional that he is, Mike continued as nonchalantly as he could. Just as the segment was about to end, the playful pup successfully broke free of his leash. Surprisingly, Ripple didn’t run around the studio. He stayed beside Mike, expectantly waiting for the weather reporter to take notice and play with him.

Mike did a great job finishing his report despite letting out a few chuckles in between. It’s not easy keeping a straight face with a dog as playful as Ripple set on distracting you! The pup’s charming ways led to a happier ending, too.

Now, Ripple has a home to share with his friend, a Great Dane.

All’s well that end’s well. It was the type of segment that no viewer, manager, or producer would even dream of complaining about. After all, how often do you see something as fresh, interesting, and heartwarming as a pup jumping about while on air? Now that’s how you add life to the weather segment!
