In case you’ve never heard of Napoleon Dynamite, this was a character portrayed in an oddball comedy film. The movie follows a teenager named Napoleon who’s awkward, to say the least. In the series, this teen has to navigate his way through high school while always being “the man out.”

For people who watched the classic, they remember a host of wonderful yet cringe-worthy scenes. But the one thing they love the most is the time when Napoleon danced to the song “Canned Heat” by Jamiroquai. Today, that dance has become iconic. It was so impressive, it secured Napoleon Dynamite’s place in pop culture.

Following in Napoleon’s footsteps

Every third-grader goes through some rough times. They’re just starting to figure out who they are. Sometimes, these kids discover they have a passion for art while other times, they learn they’re good at academics. Then, once in a while, a kid shows that he has a wicked sense of humor. That’s what happened with one 9-year-old boy.

It started when Jude signed up to dance in the talent show

What people didn’t know is that for some time, this boy had been watching YouTube videos of Napoleon Dynamite’s 2004 performance. But what mom and dad weren’t aware of is that Jude had been rehearsing the moves faithfully every day. It was only before the talent show that he revealed the dance to his parents. Both his parents were blown away.

He captured the essence of the character

If you’re going to do Napoleon Dynamite’s iconic dance, you better be prepared. So, Jude dressed in a “Vote for Pedro” shirt, which was in another part of the movie, and high-waisted pants. To ensure he looked like the character, he also donned a red curly wig. Now all he had to do was dance.

Jude took this very seriously

For this third-grader, he meant business. He didn’t want to do an “okay” job at school but instead, a performance that people would remember. His sense of humor combined with his chosen routine would accomplish just that.

This kid nailed it.

While practicing the dance moves at home, Jude paid close attention to every detail. He taught himself the moves so well that everyone was shocked. Throughout the performance, Jude danced, dipped, and dodges just like Napoleon. It was so funny and spot-on that people in the audience were in an uproar.
