Elementary school talent shows are always fun to watch. You never know what you’ll see next. You have your singers, your dancers, and even your magicians, but it’s the comedians who always seem to bring the house down. Participating talents always look forward to the big day, too. Preparing, rehearsing, and performing just come naturally to some kids, especially the ones who aren’t the least bit afraid to think outside of the box.

Singing and dancing are equally entertaining to watch because kids are so talented and confident. Magic tricks and animal shows are fun, too, but there’s really nothing like comedy – all forms of it.

This group of fifth-graders decided to take the unconventional route and treat the audience to a show like no other.

Assembled in the middle of a gym, concealed by a large black cloth, four fifth-grade boys immediately had the audience laughing when their costumes were revealed: onesies, bibs, and binkies! You’d think boys their age would vehemently protest doing such an act for fear of looking undignified and being made fun of. This group, however, clearly wanted to bring joy to everyone watching and very gamely donned their baby costumes.

Impressively, they were able to achieve the aesthetic they wanted by making use of stuffed onesies and cutting holes in the box they were in so that their head and hand movements wouldn’t be constricted. The preparation for this act must have been a challenge. After all, they had to first come up with a unique concept, put together costumes (which most probably involved sewing), construct props, and create original choreography.

As the talent show hosts introduced the boys, the focus turned to the boys in the center who were more than ready. The music played and the fun started.

The boys started bobbing their heads and lip syncing to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” as the kids laughed.

The fifth-graders took turns mouthing the lyrics, complete with silly facial expressions and hand gestures. Their performance wasn’t just silly lip syncing – it had actual choreography and made the entire thing a treat to watch.

After the first chorus of the track, the boys quickly put on baseball caps and got hold of their baseballs and bats just in time for the next track. Seconds after trying to hit the ball, they dropped their props and got ready for the next surprise.

They moved their arms slowly and formed one Kung Fu hand position after another as the intro to “Kung Fu Fighting” blared from the speakers.

They were definitely having a great time hamming it up in front of everybody. Each part of the act was more delightful to watch because of their mischievous grins and game faces. Talk about standing out! As pleasant and charming as it is to watch perfectly choreographed dances, exceptional singers, and even gymnasts, magicians, and kids with pets, nothing beats an unexpected twist that keeps the audience eagerly watching.

These fifth-graders made the right choice, going for comical and entertaining.

It’s not everyday you see a group of fifth-grade boys gamely dancing to a Taylor Swift song while sporting silly costumes for the entire student body to see. This delightful act shows how confident and good-natured these students are. Who cares about looking stupid if you’re able to put a smile on people’s faces and give them something to laugh about?
