The unofficial motto of the United States Postal Service goes like this: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”.
And boy do they mean it. The USPS may be under immense pressure at the moment, but it hasn’t stopped them from being as dedicated as ever. While the current government threatens to defund them, their loving communities are coming together in support and sharing why they appreciate their postal workers so much.
1) They’re willing to weather intense storms
The #nodaysoff hashtag is usually used among the fitness community… but let’s be honest, it belongs with the postal workers. You’d think a hurricane is a pretty good excuse to stay home – but nothing stops these guys!
The mailman is out there in a hurricane and people are saying the @USPS can’t handle vote by mail this November? C’mon man. #usps #weehawken #votebymail pic.twitter.com/pWw5sTXc2b
— Seth (@SethHuling) August 4, 2020
2) They love our pets as much as we do
Joey brought so much joy to his community, not just delivering packages for people… but for the dogs too! Jax in particular loved getting his daily treat, and was sorry to see Joey leave. As was everyone in the neighborhood, I’m sure.
3) …Like this dog whisperer
This mailman loves to visit with the dogs on his route, and always posts photos of his neighborhood pups on his Instagram page. It’s clear the dogs love it when he makes his rounds too. Just look at those happy faces!

4) They don’t want us to worry
This guy must have received so much mail that the mailman found it strange to have a no-mail day. He didn’t want the guy to feel concerned, so he left him a quick note to ease his soul. Pretty cute!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BB9DZHkqiSP/
5) They appreciate us
Leaving some water out for your mailman (kinda like milk and cookies for Santa) goes a long way! They’re on the move all day no matter how hot is it. This mailman appreciated it so much he remembered it all year.

6) They’re into calligraphy
Okay, they’re probably not all into calligraphy. But this guy certainly is! Just look at that cool penmanship. Incredible.
i told my mailman how much i appreciate him on friday and he gave me this today 🥺 pic.twitter.com/fvLYj4gXSJ
— 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 (@notgaysam) July 13, 2020
7) They’re still out here
It’s beautiful how in the face of this threat to the constitution and democracy as we know it… people are taking the time to share how much they appreciate their postal workers. EJ’s still smiling no matter what is going on!
Since #USPostalService is trending.
Here’s EJ.
He’s been my mailman for years.
Out here in pandemics & hurricanes.
Looking fine. pic.twitter.com/yjTCz3UM6V— dawn renee (@SteelCityDawn) April 12, 2020
8) They go to great lengths
This is some next level efficiency. This looks like something The Rock would do in a movie if he played a postman.
9) They bring tears to our eyes
No, I’m not crying, there’s just something in my eye. This family trusted their mailman to bring those yummy treats to the other dogs along his route. Too beautiful.
My dad is a mailman and he likes to give dogs on his route treats. Today he told us one of the dogs on his route passed away and his owners gave him this bag of treats with this note 😭 pic.twitter.com/JA46PU60a4

10) They work even during tornado warnings
This guy definitely needs a raise… and a new umbrella!

11) They share experiences
Okay so not only is this mailman hella cool for taking time in his day to appreciate the solar eclipse, but even cooler for sharing it with the people along his route!
My mailman watching the solar eclipse a few years ago. He shares his glasses with me so I could check it out too. He rocks! #USPSisEssential pic.twitter.com/GiratKVDoc
— Jenn Foo 🛸✌🏼🎸 (@Chipsndippin) August 21, 2020
12) They love games
Even though they’re extremely busy on their routes, it doesn’t mean they don’t take time to communicate with the people along their route. Even if it’s not in person!
13) They’re creative
These package thieves are getting craft out here. So the mailmen have to get craftier… and boy, do they deliver. (Pun very much intended.)
I've always admired my mailman's mail hiding skills, but today's addition of the pitcher is a lovely sculptural touch pic.twitter.com/xo5FnWL4C9
— 🌻 Emily Brandwin 🌻 (@CIAspygirl) October 7, 2016
14) They work in extreme conditions
It’s not just the weather, it’s not just a pandemic, it’s not just the threat of losing all funding… it’s everything at once. And these guys are still out here working their butts off to get us our mail! We do not deserve these heroes.
https://twitter.com/MirandaDivozzo/status/1294324036357386240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1294324036357386240%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzzfeed.com%2Fmjs538%2Fwhy-the-usps-matters
15) They’re masters of disguise
Well, disguising packages, that is. Unfortunately, with the rise of Amazon and online ordering, came the rise of package theft. This USPS carrier went out of his way to make sure another package that had been delivered didn’t draw any attention or get stolen off the porch! That’s above the job description for sure.
#USPS #bestmailman My mailman hides packages that he didn't deliver! #AboveAndBeyond pic.twitter.com/De4GAtAMM7
— Scott (@Maxp0wer) December 7, 2016
16) They don’t just disappear
What a cute way to announce your retirement! It’s really not just a “job” for these people, it’s a career. A lifestyle! They love what they do and they appreciate the people they serve.
https://twitter.com/COURTNEYWiLES/status/1010184082112892928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1010184082112892928%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzzfeed.com%2Fmjs538%2Fwhy-the-usps-matters
17) They truck on during challenges
Even though their jobs are on the line and they’re under threat of losing their funding… they keep trucking away at their day to day. They just want you to get your mail and they’re doing the best they can!
Met my new mailwoman, Ava, just as I was coming in and felt compelled to thank her profusely for being out here working admidst these trying times. She said,”it’s really hard work and we’re just trying to do our jobs”. We know, sis and we’ve got your back 🙌🏾🇺🇸#SaveTheUSPS pic.twitter.com/KLW9jWksrO
— Rev. Wendy Hamilton – DC ⬆️ (@revwendy3) August 18, 2020
18) They love to share
This guy decided he wanted to bring a little sunshine home with him after his vacation!
Look at these adorable keychains our mailman brought us from his visit to the Philippines?! Thank u Freddie! #BestMailman #Grateful pic.twitter.com/lnR8u5Q62t
— Camden Yorktown (@CamdenYorktown) May 22, 2017
19) They’re music video worthy
I don’t know exactly what the USPS did to make this Twitter user so stoked on them, but they love them enough to make a quick music video about how much they love them. That’s saying something.
Screw it. USPS fancam. pic.twitter.com/O6gHFau3aw
— The Lincoln Project (@ProjectLincoln) August 15, 2020
20) They send congratulations
Graduation is a big deal, and the class of 2020 has been robbed of the normal celebrations that go along with that achievement. While it may not be the same as having a prom, or attending your graduation ceremony, or throwing a big party, a card like this can really brighten someone’s day and let them know you’re proud of them. Too pure!
Look what my mail lady gave me😢 she’s so cute, people like this deserve the world☹️ pic.twitter.com/vB2RNUdpKX
— Lina Yellow Horse (@lina_hxo) May 22, 2020
21) They take time for the little things
Everyone loves receiving flowers! Postal workers can stick to their route and keep to themselves – but they don’t. They spread a little love whenever they can.
my mailman left these in my mailbox today… the smallest things are honestly the sweetest 😭💛 #HAPPYEARTHDAY pic.twitter.com/HTxKYDL6D5
— cadabb$ (@Abbby_Cadabby) April 22, 2017
22) They help return lost goods
Losing your wallet is honestly just the worst feeling. You have to cancel and replace your credit and debit cards, driver’s license, health card, points cards and whatever else was in there! And it’s rare for wallets to be returned with cash in them. But postal workers like Alex here are dedicated, honest people.
Had my lost wallet returned with almost $80 still in it. Thank you kind stranger and Alex the Mailman!

23) They love feelin’ the love
Mail carriers really love it when you appreciate the hard work they do every day. Sending little notes back in forth is just one of the ways they show this! Don’t forget to thank your mail carrier today :)
My wife left a note in support of our #USPS in our box. Kindness returned by our carrier. Let's all support our #USPS! pic.twitter.com/nhTlAPPz48
— Mike Moreno (@bigscooponsport) August 19, 2020
24) They bring people together when they’re far apart
This girl remembers how much those letters/packages meant to her even though it was three whole years ago! You can tell this really made an impression, and made her feel close to her pen pals in other places.
3 years ago, in the path of totality, the @USPS came throigh for me and my pen pals in the geekiest & best way! @2017_eclipse #SnailMail🐌📬@NASA #SaveThePostalService #USPS pic.twitter.com/ifS8Ms7HA7

25) They have great memories
First of all, Rico is ballin’. $40?! I don’t even spend that much on my siblings for birthdays. And second of all, for him to take the time to listen and remember when this girl’s birthday is, that’s pretty special!
my mailman gave me $40 for my birthday. mayhaps i’m crying. pic.twitter.com/4SmAC53LOU
— heather︱she/her (@hauntedsocially) August 14, 2020
26) They like to dress up
This is wholesome! It’s little things like this that add just a little bit of magic to someone’s day. Both for the mail man, and the people along his route.
https://twitter.com/jadekrissandra/status/680090752353984512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E680090752353984512%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzzfeed.com%2Fmjs538%2Fwhy-the-usps-matters
27) They’re cool
This mailman is a badass. Only the true hardcore elite are willing to choose Slytherin house. Comparing tattoos (and face masks, in 2020) is a great way to bond with someone new. Including your mail man, apparently!
I showed my mailman Tito my new @TraceyGurney mask repping for my #Hogwarts house #Ravenclaw and… he came out as a #Slytherin, “always with the bad guys,” and showed me his #Decepticon tattoo on his forearm. #bestmailman
— Maria G. (@MsMarialba) May 9, 2020
28) They’re generous
Mail carriers don’t have to buy gifts for anyone along their route, let alone the pets! But during the holidays some people like to spread a little extra Christmas cheer, like this mail woman who got one of her local dogs a toy.
my mail lady is the best y’all pic.twitter.com/p4M01RLUEF
— kylieeツ (@kylieeshelton) December 22, 2017
29) They support their communities
How cute is this!? This mailman doubled as a customer, and a postal worker! Emily was clearly very excited to have made her first sale, and that will always leave a lasting impression.
Big news: I made my first cash-in-hand book sale today. Many thanks to my mailman, Roger, for being my first customer! (My #hometown is the best. 😊) https://t.co/ehp9jcU4oE pic.twitter.com/0zfNYzDSVA
— Emily Conrad (@emilycconrad) August 17, 2020
30) They deliver no matter what
If we can barely see the mailman here in the picture… imagine how hard it is for him to find all the right houses! They really stick to that unofficial ‘no matter what’ motto, these guys.
That shadowy figure is my mailman making the rounds here in a Worcester blizzard … peak New England pic.twitter.com/vuU3ZGvprG
— Bill Sheerin (@AssignGuy) January 4, 2018
31) This guy making the impossible happen
This postal worker went out of his way to deliver a skateboard (without any stamps or packaging) from a little boy to his hero, Tony Hawk. The heartwarming story went viral, and Tony even sent a skateboard back! I’m not crying, you’re crying.
32) They go above and beyond
This mailman not only decided to go out of his way to help someone on his route take her mail to the post office, but he’s bringing a smile to her child’s face too! He didn’t need to go that hard, but he did.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CAYeHDIAn2i/
33) They get into the Christmas spirit
The Grinch stole all the presents, so maybe it’s not the best costume for a mailman. But I’m sure that’s not what’s going on here. He looks ready to make some Dr. Seuss level smiles happen!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B6Q-hd3h5KS/
34) Like, a lot of Christmas spirit
Is it possible this is actually Santa? He delivers things. Maybe Christmas is just his side gig and he spends the rest of the year delivering mail as a USPS worker.
https://www.instagram.com/p/iT1b_YL-11/
35) They really care about the people on their route
It’s amazing enough as it is that the USPS workers deliver mail come rain, shine, snow, or storm. But to be concerned for the wellbeing of the people they deliver mail for? That’s next level.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BYwzeD-DTU-/
36) They encourage kids to get outdoors
What better way to make a kid want to be outside than to reward them with candy? It’s like our modern day ice cream truck. Except the treats are free and they also come with gifts for the adults!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BnCYDIgnVIM/
37) They’re postal workers for life
Even after retirement. This man looks ready for service as the USPS continues to face challenges to keep afloat. He’s dedicated to making sure people get their mail… even after he retired!
https://twitter.com/lauryn_ashley3/status/1297213757232357376
38) They appreciate being appreciated
There’s an entire Reddit thread for USPS postal workers to discuss the ups and downs of their roles. They love sharing nice things their communities do for them, like this one! There’s also tons of cute dog pics. It’s super wholesome.
39) They put up with a lot of weird things
You might be a cool mail-receiving citizen, but there are a lot of crazy people out there. Entitled, impatient, and naked are just a few of the things our postal workers deal with on a daily basis.
40) They spread joy wherever they go
You love receiving your mail. Your friends love it, your neighbors love it. Even your dog loves it. Is there anything better than receiving a package you ordered online? No, it’s the best. These guys make sure that it finds its way to you! They’re low key heroes.
https://i.imgur.com/57T66sd.gifv
The next time you see your USPS worker, say hello, smile, let them know you appreciate their hard work. Be patient and kind if your mail is late – it’s not their fault. They’re out here doing their best for us!
