I don’t know about you, but at 8 years old I was extremely clumsy and tripping over everything.
I went to recreational dance classes and followed choreography to the best of my ability but definitely spent a lot of time fumbling about.
I say it like it’s in the past but I haven’t really become much more co-ordinated… nor am I a better dancer, if we’re being honest. Ah well.
But these amazing young girls certainly won’t have to say the same when they’re my age. At just 8 years old, they are absolutely smashing complicated choreography routines that most couldn’t even pull off if they tried! Not even with years of training. They have some serious talent.
Dancing to Gwen Stefani’s 2006 hit song Wind It Up, these 3 girls gave the audience a performance to remember and have racked up more than 7 million views on YouTube!
The routine starts with one of the talented young girls dancing solo to the yodelling intro to Stefani’s song.
She “winds up” and calls out her co-dancers who come running out to join her in the routine.
They’re crazy in sync! Especially because they are, I’ll say it again, only 8 years old!
They all bring so much lively and sassy energy to the stage.
And these are not easy moves to perfect! A “fouetté en tournant”, or more commonly just called a fouette, is a french term and translates to “whipped turn”.
It is one of the most complicated ballet moves out there!
That’s the move where the dancer spins on one leg while the other extends all the way out then back in, keeping momentum for multiple rotations.
You’ll have to watch the video to see it at it’s best – in action.
These are jazz dancers but, the lines between styles get blurred in modern routines because, well, they’re modern. Whatever looks best right?
Fouettes are pretty stunning, and even perfecting just one of these is a challenge.
Well, these girls pull off four before dropping down into a sideways splits. Wow!
And what fun, modern routine wouldn’t be complete without a little pop-culture reference?
Will it be the nae nae? Will it be flossing? Nope – Gagnam style!
The cute little nod to the decade’s most viral dance move is a super charming addition to the snappy routine.
For a smash ending to their epic choreographed dance, they pull some wild flexible moves that are absolutely mind boggling before strutting off stage.
I mean, look at that leg!
Gwen Stefani would be proud.
Thanks to the amazing choreography by Molly Long, their routine won them first place in their division of 8 year old Jazz trios at the Star Power National Dance competition in 2013.
Molly Long is an American choreographer from California and has choreographed routines for dancers on television shows like “Dance Moms” and various Lifetime reality series.
She grew up dancing at Dance Precisions, which is an elite dance competition studio that grooms world class dancers. She taught classes after being a student, and now choreographs routines for competitions.
What an amazing performance by all three of these talented young girls, who certainly have a bright future in the world of entertainment ahead of them.
A well deserved win!
