As kids, just about everyone has dived off a board. When young, it’s all about having fun while spending a day at the pool. But as some children grow older, they enjoy diving so much that their passion turns serious. In certain instances, that can lead to competitions and even a professional career.
Learning the ropes
Initially, people will get on a diving board and either jump or do a cannonball. As they build up courage, they start to dive. This takes a little getting used to but once you’ve done it, it’s hard to stop.
A recognized sport
Today, diving is a sport recognized around the world. In fact, it’s now an important part of the Olympic Games. Sure, some people still do it for fun but for others, it’s something they take to heart. You might not realize it but to do this competitively takes a tremendous amount of skill.
Key components of diving
People who are really good at diving didn’t just reach a level of success from practicing a little bit. This sport requires flexibility, strength, air awareness, and even kinesthetic judgment. In other words, a really good diver must be extremely athletic and focused.
Cool stunts
Doing a straight dive into a pool of water is awesome. But now, some people are pushing things to a new level. They try different spins, turns, and flips. For them, that makes diving even more fun and competitive.
Capturing attention
Thanks to social media, non-divers and divers alike can watch videos of people who do extraordinary things on a diving board. One guy caught the attention of the world due to his unusual trick.
Two diving boards
Typically, people who do diving stunts only use one high-platform board. But a guy by the name of Filip Devor decided to perform using two boards. At just 24 years old, he’s already good. But could he pull it off?
Preparing to dive
In a video posted online, Filip is seen standing on one diving board. He’s at the edge with his back toward the swimming pool below. Then, as he jumps and gains momentum, he makes his move.
He makes it
Still facing backward, he comes down on the first board and then seamlessly hops over to the second board. As he lands on it, he twists his body so he’s facing forward Here’s the kicker…the first board is much shorter than the second one so he had to gain a lot of height.
Barely any splash
With diving, the smaller the splash a diver makes when entering the water, the better that person scores. For Filip, there was little water movement as he landed. In simple terms, he nailed his two-board dive.
Going viral
People were so impressed by what Filip did, they quickly shared the video. To date, it’s been viewed on various social media platforms more than two million times.
Fast responses
After the video was posted, it didn’t take long for people to comment. One poster said, “He just broke the laws of gravity.” Another person wrote, “Damn, I cannot believe this man jumped between two diving boards.” He did and flawlessly.
