Floyd, a 190-lb mastiff, was happily hiking up the Grandeur Peak trail near Salt Lake City with his human dad, his human aunt, and human cousins.

They were on their way back when they made a wrong turn and ended up on a โ€œreally steepโ€ descent that was described as a โ€œnightmare.โ€

When they attempted to go back to where they made a wrong turn so they can get to the right trail, thatโ€™s when Floyd plopped down and refused to get up and walk.

Floyd has cuts on his paws but that wasnโ€™t the reason he stopped. He stopped because he was so tired, he couldnโ€™t move another muscle.

His dad tried to get him to move unsuccessfully.

Unfortunately, there was no cell service where they were so they couldnโ€™t call for rescue. They also didnโ€™t have any means to carry Floyd back down the trail. With only three adults and a group of small children, it would be impossible to bring Floyd down anyway.

So Floydโ€™s dad decided to stay put with him while the rest of their group went down the trail to get help.

The temperature was starting to drop and it was going to keep dropping throughout the night. Floyd wasnโ€™t going to be alone when that happened.

The rest of their group went down and, once they got cell service, they called the police for help.

The police got in touch with the Salt Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Search and Rescue, who promptly responded to the call.

This all-volunteer, nonprofit rescue organization didnโ€™t hesitate and went straight up the mountain to rescue Floyd and his dad. When the rescue team found them, Floyd was a good boy.

โ€œHe had some cuts on his paws,โ€ Shawn Kenney, the rescue team leader, told InsideEdition.com. โ€œWe ended up loading up the dog into our litter. Floyd ended up being a great patient and just staying in the litter and seemed to be very happy and grateful to be carried down.โ€

They loaded him onto their stretcher and wheeled him down the mountain. Halfway through their journey, one of the wheels broke though and they had to carry him down the rest of the way.

Floyd never put up a fuss though and was quite grateful to be rescued.

โ€œHe was just chill,โ€ Kenney said. โ€œHe knew he was getting carried out. He just laid there and enjoyed the ride.โ€

They wrote about what happened on their Facebook page.

โ€œSLCOSAR got a call for a 190-pound, 3-year-old Male injured Mastiff about two miles up the Grandeur Peak Trail. Several hikers had called Unified Police to report that the dog and his owner were on the trail and not able to move. Salt Lake County Search and Rescue members went into action and headed up the trail to make sure Floyd could get off the mountain with his human before it got too cold. Floyd his human and all the team members got off the mountain around 10:30PM.โ€

Although they hadnโ€™t heard from Floydโ€™s dad, who didnโ€™t want to be named, since the rescue, a woman named Amy Sandoval wrote a comment on the post. Amy, it turns out, is Floydโ€™s human auntie.

โ€œThis pup is my nephew! I was up on the trail with him and my brother. Some of us eventually had to head down the trail as we had young kids with us. I am SO relieved this turned out and my brother and Floyd got off the mountain. Thank you search and rescue volunteers!!โ€ Amy Sandoval wrote.

She also added that Floydโ€™s dad never left his side and was prepared to sleep through the night at the trail together.

Thankfully, that didnโ€™t have to happen because they were eventually rescued.
