An astounding one hundred seventy-four foxes got to feel the earth beneath their paws for the very first time in early January of this year. The foxes were bred in captivity on a farm in China that specializes in the “production” of fox hides for the ongoing fur trade there.

When BoHe, an animal rights activist, and his group learned that the fur-farm would soon be closing due to it not making any profit and that they would be disposing of the 174 remaining foxes, they knew they had to find a way to help the poor, innocent creatures. Karen Gifford is an animal rescuer that supports Bohe’s activist efforts to rescue dogs from the slaughter in the dog-meat trade, and when she learned of the hoard of foxes about to be liberated, she turned to Facebook to raise support for the animals.

“born in the spring and skinned in the winter. It’s horrifying for sure,” she wrote.

The activists reached out to a Buddhist monastery, who agreed to foster the foxes in their nursery garden until Bohe and his companions could construct a suitably enclosed sanctuary for them of their own.

Gifford filmed the touching moment each of these sweet foxes were released from their unbelievably small cages, some of which had two or more of the young pups crammed in, and uploaded the series of short videos to her Facebook page to help raise support for their care.

The video starts as the countless dog cages were loaded onto their trucks for transport. They are understandably frantic, but they were on their way to a much, much better place; the Buddhist Jilin Nursery Garden, based out of Mudanjiang, China-the closest thing to a foxes version of Heaven on Earth!

After arriving at their very own Buddhist garden sanctuary, the latches to the pups’ cages were lifted as one-by-one each one was set free.

Gifford was overjoyed to see her and BoHe’s organizations’ efforts finally pay off in such a big way! The ecstatic rescuer shared the inspiring and heartfelt moment with the world in a Facebook post with a caption that read:

“Freedom
Foxes are let out of the cages for the first times in their lives!!! Tears of joy!!! Omg omg omg can you imagine??? They are born in the spring and skinned in the winter! But because of Bohe and her supporters in China and my supporters here too these foxes will be safe from harm and fed for the rest of their lives!”

As soon as the small foxes were released from their cages, they thrilled by the feel and scent of everything around them!

They immediately got down to the wonderful business of roaming around their new sanctuary, sniffing at everything in sight. Living a life as a production animal, only bred for the purpose of being slaughtered in order to fetch a price for their furs, these poor babies had never gotten the chance to just live a normal life with four paws on the ground…until they were rescued by BoHe and her friends, that is.

There is no doubt that the foxes will be nourished with plenty of tender love and care while the rehabilitate from a lifetime of trauma.

In another video post, the foxes can be seen roaming about as if in a herd as one the monks silently kneels among them, blessing the pups as they begin their healing journey.

In the pictures, you can see some of the rescuers heaving weighty bags of dog food around through the garden to make sure all of the roaming foxes get a good meal and a full belly. There is nothing that these pups will go without thanks to the hard work of all the amazing people involved in their rescue.

While all of the volunteer activists are more than happy to give these adorable foxes all of the care that they need, with 174 of them it is A LOT of work, and the cost of supplies like dog food and medical care can be a bit overwhelming.

Karen Gifford is asking people to help support BoHe’s important work in taking care of these rescue foxes by donating for food costs, medical care, and any other supplies that are necessary to their health and well being.

The fur trade is a sickening and completely unnecessary industry that raises animals in torture and abuse only to be skinned for money. Please share this article to help raise awareness and put an end to this inhumane practice for good.
