There’s a new kind of storm brewing on the dance floor.
Imagine for a moment that clapping thunder and a tsunami of synchronized waves can be rolled into a ball of charged energy. And now imagine that ball of energy lighting up the stage as you’ve never seen before.
And just like that, you have twelve young women bringing rhythm and sass to crowds of cheering onlookers with their electric acapella Irish dance!
Irish dance is nothing new. We’ve seen it with the likes of Michael Flatley, who along with PBS, famously brought us the hit musical, Lord of the Dance.
However, the way Michael Flatley did it left us breathless. He was just too damned sexy for his own good, and American women everywhere wanted more and more of this new form of dance we had never seen!
Yet, not all Irish dance has to feel like it came straight from the book cover of a romance novel. So wipe the sweat off your brow, and let’s talk about acapella hard shoe dancing.
Irish dance without the music? Say whaaaaat?
Irish dance is so familiar to us because of the music! That’s what our brain has been wired to think, anyway.
Yet, there’s a subtler way – if you could call it that – to showcase a stunning display of fancy footwork.
And it’s the exact opposite of the high-flying maneuvers that Riverdance taught us.
The talented young ladies of Rince Nua learned from the best, and they’re taking it to the next level acapella style.
Like many things that are Irish, hard shoe dancing is rooted in a time-honored tradition.
Stiff, upright bodies and arms locked straight down their sides are the most recognizable hallmarks of these dancers. And when they move their bodies in a vertical motion in quick succession, you know you’re looking at the real deal!
How can they even do what they do?
According to their website, Rince Nua snaps up talent at an early age in order to create the best of the best.
“At Rince Nua, your child will be learning a proven curriculum that has helped hundreds of students learn the foundations of Irish Dance. We create memorable, joyous and confidence-building experiences for children. We provide a dance community where children feel supported, have fun, and feel loved. We give our very best to every child who comes through our door. All our programming is specific to assisting children in building positive life-long habits.”
They’re traditional lasses all the way from the crown of their head to the bottoms of their feet.
Take note of all the curly-haired love going on. All those eye-catching ringlets cascading down their shoulders are all a part of the traditional look.
Now, notice those black stockings and a touch of tutu magic adorning the hem of their dress as they bounce up in down in a flurry of rhythmic waves!
It’s easy to see that all their dedication and hard work to this old school form of dance has paid off.
