We all know that terrible feeling of misplacing our things. Depending on what they are the feeling of the loss has different levels whether it’s a pair of sunglasses, jewelry, our phones, keys, or even our wallets. Sometimes we put even our most valued things down and completely forget about their existence until we are too far and their fate lies in the hands of whoever stumbles upon it next. Most times we expect never to see these things again, however, the goodness of our neighbors is always the best surprise.

On Memorial Day in Wisconsin and 11-year-old named Vince Hietpas and his father Lorenzo were walking through Voyageur Park when Vince stumbled upon a wallet on the ground. Vince and his father searched to find the driver’s license inside to see who this missing item belongs to. Once discovered they immediately take it to the address listed on the license in hopes to return the wallet to its owner.

The owner of this valuable misplaced item is a 17-year-old named Chase Dahlke. While he was fishing at the park he misplaced his wallet and when he got home he figured he would never see it again…that is until Vince showed up!

When Vince arrived at the house listed on the license the Dahlke’s were actually at their neighbor’s house but could check to see who was at the door through the camera on the doorbell. When Vince held up the wallet Chase’s dad Jason hurried over to recover the wallet.

At the moment Jason wanted to give a reward to Vince for doing the right thing, however, the only money inside the wallet to offer him was two dollars. Once more, Vince proved his kind heart and humble spirit by graciously accepting the two dollars with excitement, and went on his way. However, Chase’s stepmom Michelle wanted to do more and give back to the young boy so she took to Facebook.

Michelle posted the photos from the Ring doorbell camera and wrote,

“Who knows this kid? We want to reward him! So thankful for him and his dad. There is so much hate in this world and so much negativity. It’s time to focus on the positive. This kid and his dad found Chase’s wallet by Voyageur park. Instead of stealing everything Chase owns, they saw his address on Chase’s driver’s license and dropped the wallet off all intact! There is so much good and positivity in this world, it’s time we focus on the good. Thank you, kind sir, for raising a great kid”

Shortly after the community, thanks to the Facebook post, was able to help Michelle and her family connect with Vince and Lorenzo. Which is when they learned that what Vince did was even more humbling than they originally thought. What they had learned was that the father Lorenzo has been juggling various odd jobs for months trying to keep his family afloat. Lorenzo did have a steady job at a meatpacking plant until he contracted COVID-19. Although Lorenzo is mostly recovered now, he cannot return to work because he cannot breathe well enough to use the PPE at the packing plant.

After learning this Michelle went back to her Facebook post to write an update,

“***ONE MORE UPDATE…we contacted this family. The dad had COVID and was out of work. This family still gave the wallet back even though they have nothing! This family could use some love and support from us. Thankful we found them and wish we could provide more to this wonderful family. The family wanted you all to know they are so grateful for all the kind words and love! The boy enjoys reading all the comments and says thank you!”

In order to help out the family started a GoFundMe page and the response is absolutely heartwarming.

On the GoFundMe page, you can also find the video that Michelle posted which was the live video she took when she gave the family the money. Although she writes a lot of the live video stream got cut out there is still a good 10 minutes of the kindness and gratitude that is being exchanged between these two families. She also writes that they will continue to provide the family with the money as it continues to come in.

So nice to see how one simple good deed turned into something so much greater for a family that is truly deserving.
