Jon Stanley had cancer and he only had one last wish – to hear the revving sound of a motorcycle.

It all started with one Facebook post from David Thompson last June 12, 2017. He shared a photo of Jon Stanley and quoted, “Sometimes a dying person’s last wish is just to hear the sound of a Harley in their window. This is Jon Stanley he has terminal cancer.”

Jon Stanley who was 61 at that time was a veteran and a biker. He loved motorcycles and had rode for years. Sadly, he was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer last February. He was a fighter and have endured his battle against cancer but unfortunately, the past week before this post went viral, his condition took a turn for the worse.

It was Jon’s brother-in-law Michael Smith who contacted David Thompson, asking him a favor after finding out of his brother-in-law’s dying wish. Just a few hours after Thompson posted the details of the event on Facebook – it was already shared 800 times!

“I was contacted this morning about 6:30 this morning by Mike Smith through Facebook—and he informed me about Jon, you know he’s terminal, and he’s not looking really good, and one of his wishes was to hear a bunch of motorcycles out his window,” said Thompson to ABC57’s Jess Arnold.

The bikers were invited to come to Walmart on Ireland Rd. for the assembly and then to Stanley’s home. The bikers definitely didn’t disappoint Thompson, even if it was an urgent request.

“A lot of people think motorcycles are loud and obnoxious, but you know, we’re a big brotherhood, and we take care of each other,” said Daniel Thompson in his interview.

Bikers have unity, they aren’t just men who love motorcycles, they are a big brotherhood and brothers support each other.

Before 6 pm that same day, more than 100 bikers went to Walmart and they were ready to give Stanley his final wish. They drove more than 2 miles to where Jon lives to make sure that he gets to hear his favorite sound.

What an amazing act of kindness from a brotherhood of bikers. Even though Jon was too weak to ride his bike, people helped him as they carried him outside to be able to sit side-by-side with his loving wife as the bikers revved their engines.

Brenda, Jon’s wife was crying as she revved the bike that they were in.

“Knowing that all this happened for one man. All he ever wanted was him and his wife on that Harley,” said Liliana Ramirez, Jon’s granddaughter.

He had his eyes closed; his head being held up but everyone knew that he was very happy.

“He got to get on a bike one last time, and that was great,” said Kristy Stewart, Jon’s daughter who was teary-eyed as she shared what happened.

Jon Stanley passed away peacefully, a few hours after his last wish was granted.

“That’s the last thing he heard, the revving, the bikes. I know he’s happy,” Brenda, Jon’s wife shared.

At the end, Stanley didn’t just hear the rev of a bike, he heard a community of bikers revving their bikes for him – a family that made sure that his final wish came true.
