Yvonne Lund Møller Peterson’s twenty-four-year-old son, Niels Paulsen, tragically passed away. Losing a child is an unbearable weight that a parent will forever hold within their heart. It is hard to grieve this horrible tragedy when you have other children grieving for their sibling too. Peterson’s son was the eldest of three, she had a younger daughter and a younger son that she had still be there for. It was at Niels’ funeral where her younger children stepped up and took on the hardest privilege, to openly honor their older brother in front of everyone.

Yvonne’s daughter spoke about her older brother at the funeral. She did this along with their father. Following their eulogies, Yvonne’s second son took the microphone to honor his brother through the power of music. He had chosen the song “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban and sang alongside a piano player in the back of the church. He knew this would a hard moment and there were multiple loved ones standing right behind him to help him along with their support.

He started off shaky, as can be expected, but kept on singing. He felt the support of all Niels’ loved ones in the church and love for him as well. A man is seen continuously rubbing his back as he sings to show his support. Niels’ younger brother sings for his brother throughout and the sniffles of tears can be heard throughout the church. He sings the first verse as it was written, but then he makes the song his own.

Yvonne explains that her younger son made the song even more personal and “the second verse was dedicated to his brother” by changing the lyrics to honor Niels.

The changed lyrics included, “there is no life, there is no life without you my brother” and “we were always there for each other, now your gone…” He was able to stay collected but the mourners could not say the same as many started to cry harder. He definitely made his brother proud and as Yvonne states her younger son, “sang into heaven.”

He was able to finish his tribute without losing himself to his grief and what a beautiful tribute it was! His mother is correct, he sang right into heaven in that moment.

It is unfathomable the loss this family has been going through but Yvonne and their father has raised very strong children. The strength this young man had to honor his brother through song is outstanding. Niels Paulsen must have been an exemplary young man and a loss to the world and this is seen by all who openly grieved him and honored him on the day of his funeral.

“We are longing to see him again in heaven,” Yvonne Lund Møller Peterson said about her son.

The family will be reunited in heaven, but until that moment she should take pride in her children. Her children knew the loss was too heavy for her to handle and stepped in the honor their brother for her. Yvonne explains that “both his and his little Sister speaking made me proud … I could only stand and look.”
