Get ready to meet an extremely talented 11-year-old.
And not only that, but one brave enough to tackle one of Aerosmith’s biggest hits of all time.
Sofie Thomas got her start very young singing in a children’s choir at the Opera House of Hanover in Germany. Her talent was spotted early on and she attended a prep class for musically gifted children as well. This early training combined with her playing the violin since she was just 5-years-old got her ready to audition on The Voice Kids. She had the opportunity, along with all the other contestants, to sign a record deal and win a cash prize.
The Voice Kids is a talent show and the junior version of The Voice which is a worldwide franchise. Children from the ages of 7 to 14 take the stage’s spotlight hoping to win the grand prize. It starts with the blind auditions where the coaches’ chairs are turned around unable to see the performer.
Being judged solely on their voices alone the judges then decide if they will hit their buzzers and compete to have the contestant on their team. They will have just about one minute of a live audition to make this decision and if more than one judge turns their chair around it is the contestant’s decision who they will pick.
Once they get past the blind audition section, then their next step of the process is the battle rounds. In this round, the coaches put two of their own members of their team against each other singing the same song. After this face-off of singing in front of the judges and crowd, the coach then can only pick one contestant to advance.
In the final phase of the competition, the lead contestants from each team compete against each other in a live show. The audience gets involved at this point to have a vote to save one contestant per team. Finally, each coach will have his or her best contestant left to compete in the finals and one of those four will be crowned the winner of the competition.
A Crystal Clear Voice
Sofie has moved through the competition at this point to be in the final round. She knew she had to pick a song to impress and felt Aerosmith’s powerful ballad would be the song for her. She may be young, but her voice cast a spell over everyone choosing “Dream On” written by Aerosmith’s lead singer Steven Tyler. The song was the band’s first major hit and has become one of their most signature songs.
Sofie was known throughout the competition to choose unusual songs with “Ave Maria” by Franz Schubert being a previous selection to get her to this point in the competition. The song was written as a prayer in 1825 and has been sung by many famous singers including Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion, Jackie Evancho, and Charlotte Church among many others.
Judges Out Of Their Seats
In Sofie’s “Dream On” performance, she had the judges out of their seats dancing with her energetic and talented performance. In fact, it was so good, she went on to win the competition!
