WWII US Navy vet celebrates a century of life
Friends and family gathered to celebrate the remarkable life of a WWII US Navy Veteran to commence his century of life and all of his accomplishments.

Each year we get one special day to celebrate another 365 days around the world. With every year passing turns into a new decade, as we climb the ladder of our lives reminiscing about the good and the bad surrounded by those we love. For those of us who make it to seeing one full century around the sun, we give much appreciation and well wishes. A lot can happy in a day so the amount that can happen in 100 years and the wisdom gained is something rare and quite special.

This is the case for one WWII US Navy Veteran named Mr. James Davis. For his birthday he and his family decided to celebrate his 100 years of life with a must deserved a party.

The stories that Mr. James Davis can share about his life are utterly inspiring and remarkable. He was born on August 12th, 1920 in Brookshire, Texas, and was the eldest of six children. According to the WTSP, when James was only a teenager his father passed so at a young age he stepped up and became like a father figure and an inspiration to his younger siblings. Making sure they grew up right and finished school.

Shortly after finishing school, James decided to join the U.S. Navy and become a private first-class cook. From there he went on to serve in the United States Merchant Marines and ended up serving in WWII started in 1939.

In 1945, WWI had ended and many lost their lives. Those who did survive have stories to pass along from generation to generation.

Mr. James Davis is one of those remarkable marines who lived to tell his tale. But that’s not where his journey ended. After serving, he went on to travel the world and from there was hired as a personal assistant to former President Lyndon B. Johnson! In the midst of all that he met the love of his life Odessa through mutual friends. Discovering shortly after meeting that they had nearly everything in common which led them to make the decision to get married within 3 months of their relationship. Lynda Jackon, daughter of James, tells WTSP,

“It’s kind of bittersweet since my mom is not here…”

She recalls about her mother and father’s relationship stating,

“They never had an argument…(she was) the sweetest woman I ever knew.”

On August 8th, friends and family gathered to celebrate the remarkable James Davis. The ceremony took place in Rockdale County, Georgie where James now lives.

His daughter continued to state about her father,

He doesn’t realize how impactful he has been in my life. His resilience and steadiness, don’t tend to let anything rattle him, knowing my dad you come to love the nuggets that he’ll throw out at you – never let anyone mess up your personality.”

For his big day, James received five proclamations from organizations and cities for contributing service in the community.
