Singing the national anthem before a big sporting event has become a tradition across the nation. Sometimes though, circumstances can cause the singer of the anthem to have to cancel. When this happens, many venues will fall back on a recording of the song, but what happens when event organizers do not have a recording to play?
Well, fortunately, for Mechanicsburg High School, one of their students was will to sing the song. Not only did he do a great job, he killed it. His efforts went viral and he also ended up on a variety of news programs, including Fox and Friends, a nationwide news show on the Fox network.
The Mechanicsburg High School Junior Steps Up to the Plate
Isaac Bryant was preparing for his next match at the Division III District Wrestling Championships by taking a short nap. He was awakened by the sound of the announcer looking for someone to sing the national anthem. The person who was supposed to sing it had canceled at the last minute and the school was desperate for a replacement. A little dazed and confused, Isaac took the microphone, performing admirably.
17-Year-Old Isaac Bryant
The 17-year-old student at Mechanicsburg High School in Troy, Ohio put on a stellar performance, with video of the event going viral on social media. In just a few days after the video was posted it had already gotten 2,000 shares and over 2,000 reactions.
According to Isaac, “I feel blessed and I really thank God, because it is lightning in a bottle, and it doesn’t happen a lot. And I think the reason that it is going viral is because it is real, and people understand it and there’s a lot of people that are in the military.”
His Dream of Becoming a Musician
Isaac has always dreamed of becoming a professional musician. In addition to obviously having some singing skills, the high school junior can also play the guitar. He even performed a little on his instrument for an interview with local Fox news affiliate station, Fox 28.
He played for the news program at the airport while waiting for his flight to New York for Fox and Friends. The guitar he used was built by his grandfather. But he had to return from his trip to New York for the interview soon, as he was set to perform in his high school’s musical production of “Grease.”
His Appearance on Fox and Friends
Not only did his performance get many reactions on shares on social media, it also got him an interview on local network news and at least one national news program, Fox News Network’s Fox and Friends. During the interview, Isaac told the hosts that he sings a lot and that it is a big part of him. So, it was not that big of a deal as he took the microphone to sing the anthem at the Championships, even though it was his first time singing it solo.
An Inspiration to Many
His heartfelt performance was an inspiration to many, with one veteran even writing the teen a letter expressing his gratitude for his performance. The letter especially hit home as Isaac is from a military family and is a member of a local Mechanicsburg Boy Scout troop.
