Sadly, not all women find gyms a safe place for them to work out.

Let us face life’s reality.

Truth be told, a lot of women feel watched and disrespected at gyms. Well, we are not speaking in general about men, it’s just that these things do happen in real-life situations.

It’s also the main reason why women tend to just do their workouts at home. They will just buy the equipment they need and do things on their own. Thankfully, this issue reached the attention of a couple, so they decided to take things into their own hands.

Kelly Gellert and her husband, Max, came up with a bright idea of putting up a gym where women can have their worry-free workouts.

They decided to do this while owning an Anytime Fitness back in 2014. In an interview with Bored Panda, Max told the reason behind their decision to have an all-girls gym.

“When these members were asked about what was causing them to skip weight lifting workouts on their own, they all replied that they didn’t feel comfortable, felt judged, guys were looking at them, etc. From this feedback, Max began asking the female members how they would like it if they had a whole gym to themselves to weight-lift in. And they all loved the idea! A year later, we sold our Anytime Fitness and opened up BLUSH FITNESS.”

The fitness facility is in Overland Park, Kansas and it’s made quite a good stir on the internet because of TikToker Heather Huesman.

In a viral video, she showed the online community what it’s like inside the all-girls gym. Although this isn’t the first all-girls gym to have ever exist, Blush Fitness proves to be something extra “thoughtful”.

Its amenities cater to women’s needs.

Before you even enter the gym, you’ll see its heavily tinted windows. It’s designed that way so no passers-by could take a peek at what the clients are doing inside. It’s giving the women gym-goers more privacy with whatever they’re doing inside the facility.

It’s also open 24/7 for women only and the doors are protected with fob key access. As Huesman captions the video, “The front door is locked so only members and women can get in”.

The fitness gym also lets its clients know if a male staff is coming in.

They are posting signs showing the scheduled date and time of their male workers. It really is something you wouldn’t see in other all-girls gyms, only in Blush Fitness.

And if someone suddenly needs menstrual products, this gym offers them free of charge.

They are not just thinking about their clients’ comfort and safety, they’re also generous in meeting their needs.

When asked about her decision to go to an all-girls gym, Huesman told Bored Panda:

“I joined because going to the gym around men made me really nervous. I knew I wanted to go but I was scared of either being judged or looked at while I was there. Men also always take up ALL the machines! I definitely think it’s important. I feel so safe working out there, and we see too many videos of women being catcalled or having their photo taken while they’re at the gym. I think all-women’s, and even all-men’s gyms should be a thing In almost every city!”

With all the special features of the gym, it still comes complete with regular gym equipment.

The owners definitely know their clients’ needs and wants. Sadly, as the TikTok video blew up, it also triggered some people who ended up calling the facility’s women-only policy “segregation”. To which Heather responded by saying,

“They just want something to be mad about, honestly. I would have no problem if I heard of an all-men’s gym. If men are mad that there’s such thing as an all-women’s gym, it’s because they feel the need to look at women while they’re there. However, I honestly don’t understand why it’s getting men so riled up, when simply it’s to make women feel more comfortable going to the gym. Men can be really mean at the gym! This makes it feel like a safe space for women to start the first step on their journey.”

And owner, Kelly, couldn’t agree more:

“Being called segregated is unfair because the need for a women-only gym is created by males, so what else are we supposed to do? Our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable workout environment for women and we strive to uphold that vision each and every day.”

At the end of the day, the all-girls gym means no harm. They just want to be that kind of fitness facility that gives women the security, freedom, and comfort that they want.
