There are so many great types of dances out in the world like jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, ballet and more. And usually, when a dancer is performing his or her dance moves alone are enough. But what if we got a little creative with it and inserted some theatrical moves? Then it suddenly turns into a completely different ball game.
Back in 2015, Canadian Dance Company had a lot of fun with “Bring On The Men” by Linda Eder — the original concept recording of 1994 from the Broadway show, Jekyll & Hyde.
“I want all the men, is that a crime?” Eder sings in the song, which is very fitting for the dance routine. The male dancers start out at a table, pretending to play a game with each other.
Then the female dancers enter stage left and make some flirty moves. They don’t hold back at all — in fact, they just continue to stun on their own — and then the male dancers take notice of them and get up from their table to join.
Instead of just killing an awesome dance, they are really making it special and flexing their acting muscles.
It is a very flirty song about wanting all of the men… So you can expect flirty dance moves to match. The dancers — Briar Nolet, Devon Brown, Jessy Lipke, Jordan Lipke, Nick Moustakas, and Tanner Matthews — all have great chemistry together.
At a couple of points, the men pick up the ladies. Sometimes the women even jump full throttle into the men’s arms but they never fail to make it look elegant and graceful. Pretty sure if a non-dancer were to try this, the result would be a lot funnier!
What also makes it theatrical is their use of chairs. They bring them in and out of the performance so that they can stand on them which gives a much more dramatic effect.
These dancers truly telling a story with body movements. You can feel the playfulness!
This was for a competition and they won second place, rightfully so. Throughout the performance they demonstrate their immense amount of skill and discipline. This choreography is not something you can just learn overnight!
The men carry the women off the chairs and then carry them around on their shoulders — again, making it look super graceful. Cool cool, we bet they could walk around like that all day since they make it look so easy!
The ladies break into full splits and the men smoothly pull them across the floor as if it is greased with oil (except that it is not). They all nail several spins and twists throughout and even get tossed in the air every now and then.
No big deal. These men are just tossing the women up in the air and making it look effortless.
The video went viral because it is obviously so entertaining and impressive. To this day it has almost 1.5 million views and thousands of likes and honestly, we are not surprised!
