Shows like The Voice and the Got Talent series usually get some pretty talented artists on board to judge the competitions. It helps ensure viewers only have the ‘best of the best’ when it comes time for their chance to vote.
The judges don’t always have the same taste in regards to who should become a star. However, there are certain times when a contestant is so hands-down incredible that there’s just no question about it.
On The Voice Australia, 19-year-old Karise Eden stepped onto the stage for her blind audition.
All the big red chairs were turned away, so the judges could base their decision solely on her voice, and not her looks. This is one of the elements that makes The Voice unique.
The judges were musical superstars Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden, and Seal. They sat silently as they waited for the next performer.
Suddenly, Karise unleashed her amazing talent.
From the moment she began her rendition of James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World,” Karise had the judges stunned. The reaction on Keith Urban’s face is priceless – he certainly wasn’t expecting a powerful voice like Karise’s.
The young woman was only one line into her audition when the judges couldn’t hold back any longer.
Within 10 seconds all four judges decided they wanted Karise on their team. In a perfect line, they all slammed down on their buttons.
Karise was full of emotions seeing all their chairs twist around. After all, there are times contestants don’t even get a single chair to swivel – meaning their time on the show has ended.
Her parents too couldn’t control their excitement and emotions from the side stage. They were watching their daughter’s dream come true.
One part that’s always entertaining is watching the judges’ reactions after they finally see who the “magic voice” belongs to. A lot of times they can’t hide their feelings of surprise.
Joel Madden’s mouth hung open and his eyes were wide – looking like a deer in headlights.
Karise continued belting out the James Brown classic with her huge, soulful voice. The audience cheered as she rocked the room and left everyone in goosebumps.
“This is a man’s, man’s world… But it wouldn’t be nothing…without a woman or a girl.”
In the end, Karise’s audition even earned her a standing ovation.
All the judges had nothing but praises for the teen. Keith said,
“What can I say, you swallowed Janice Joplin, I swear. It was amazing!”
At first, Seal was speechless.
“You know, for the first time, I’m completely lost for words. I actually don’t even know what to say to you.”
But then he found the right words.
“If you look behind you, you’ll see that it’s called The Voice, right. I don’t think there’s been any bigger testament to that than what we just heard – you are incredible.”
Karise ended up choosing Seal to be her coach, going on to win the entire competition that year.
Although Karise has had many great accomplishments in her music career – her blind audition is a stepping stone that will never be forgotten.
