The best part of having siblings is that you have someone to share your dreams and fears with, a shoulder to cry on, and a person that will always be there for you, loving you unconditionally.
Even more so, when you have a twin brother or sister, in which case, besides all that, you are more likely to have a kind of communication that very few people share.
Of course, you would go above and beyond for your beloved brother or sister, just like they would do for you. But, would you go as far as carrying your sibling’s baby? This is kind of tricky, right?
Well, not for twin sisters Sarah Sharp and Cathey Stoner from Nashville.
When Stoner realized that her sister’s dream to have another baby was slipping away from her, she decided to jump in and help her make this dream come true.
Sharp got married to the love of her life, Richard, in 2015 and three years later, she brought into the world their daughter, Charlotte James.
Nine months after giving birth, however, something really weird happened.
Her period came, but it wasn’t a normal period. It lasted 35 days, which at first didn’t make Sharp suspicious, as she thought it was just a postpartum thing.
Still, her sister’s gut feeling led her to take a pregnancy test, which was- surprise- positive.
The woman’s doctor at first thought it was a miscarriage or, even worse, an ectopic pregnancy, but after running more tests on her, they just couldn’t find any signs of pregnancy.
At that point, things started getting more complex.
More tests were carried out, and one day Sharp received the bad news: she had some kind of rare uterine cancer, which starts in tissue that would normally become the placenta.
That’s when Sharp stared receiving treatment, but deep inside, she was afraid she wouldn’t make it. You see, her dad died from leukemia in his 30s, when the girls were only 4 years old.
Still, she was a brave fighter and, even when the cancer was back one year later, and she had to undergo a hysterectomy, she fought back and won.
But, besides the trauma that cancer caused her, she was sad for one more reason. She and her husband had hoped for another baby and it seemed they would never be able to have it after what had happened. But her sister had a different opinion.
“I jokingly said, ‘It’s OK, I’ll have your babies.’ And we laughed about it,” Stoner, 33, told TODAY Parents. “I was trying to lighten the mood … but it was my way of saying, ‘I’m here for you.’”
Although at first Sharp didn’t take the offer seriously, Stoner brought up the matter again when Sharp had fully recovered. And that’s when she realized her sister was very serious about it.

Stoner, who already had two children, discussed with her husband and they eventually decided to help Sarah and Richard grow their family.
“We had lots of talks about if this happens, what does it look like. … After that, they started the process of creating an embryo.”
The first embryo transfer was successful and now they are impatiently waiting for the baby boy to arrive this coming August.
