Visiting a department store, there are a few things you’re likely to witness. These include (but are certainly not limited to) screaming children and dreary-eyed husbands pushing strollers around. Every so often, if fate shines brightly upon you, you may just witness something marvelous.
One day Christina Kokonis-Viggers treated the customers of Sam’s Club to a surprise treat.
The self proclaimed “Diva in the making”, Christina is a hugely talented vocalist and performer.
When Kokonis-Viggers and her friend Amanda Lasher strolled the isles of their local Sam’s Club, they discovered an enticing device. They’d found a karaoke machine which could link with your bluetooth and play any backing track you want. Well, given that Christina seems to be ready to sing at the drop of a hat, she had a track (and her voice) ready to go.
Playing “Maybe This Time”, a song from the musical Cabaret, Christina gives Liza a run for her money.
Normally when strangers begin to sing in department stores, it’s the same repeated verse from whatever pop song they heard on the radio on the way there. Obviously, ain’t nobody got time for that. Christina however, goes out on a limb and puts herself out there in the hopes of treating unsuspecting shoppers to a delightful rendition.
As the song builds, Christina brings the heat!
Kokonis-Viggers does Minnelli proud by bringing her clear and obvious talent to this Broadway slammer. Although she’s singing along with a karaoke machine, it’s obvious that she has a voice that transcends the bounds of a mere karaoke hall.
When she’s done, the store erupts.
From every angle other customers who have stopped to watch Christina’s surprising and delightful performance cheer her on, sending shockwaves across her startled face. The customers may not have expected an impromptu serenade, but Christina probably didn’t expect such applause, and she certainly couldn’t have predicted the fame it would bring her…
Although Christina sure is a real diva in the making, she asked Amanda not to upload the video to Facebook.
It seems self-consciousness can be a real set-back, but after some time, Christina agreed to let Lasher upload the video. She could never have guessed that in the first eight hours of her video being online, it would amass over eight million views. That’s more than a million views an hour!
Soon Christina began making waves throughout the internet.
Soon, Christina began receiving calls from talent agents interested in representing her, from local radio stations and even a few calls from the folks at America’s got talent! It became clear that the video had provided a glimpse into Christina’s stellar talent and it seems that everyone wanted a piece.
In the end, she went on to perform not on America’s Got Talent, but did make her television debut on The Steve Harvey Show.
Since the fateful video, Christina has worked to grow her online presence.
Her YouTube channel is ever growing, and she provides the good people of the internet with many spectacular covers of songs ranging from Britanny’s “Toxic”, to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”. Now that’s a range!
Now, Christina has over 12,000 followers on her Facebook page, and growing! We can expect to see her face more in future as she continues to dazzle her audience with her top-notch talent.
