While everyone else is trying to fill up their shopping carts with goods because of the situation that we’re in, some families only have enough budget to last them a few days.
This is the harsh reality of our world today – everyone is afraid, everyone is trying to stock up on all the basic needs. Though not all of us can afford this, some people need to carefully plan their budget so they can have “enough” food for the days to come.
“My family and I have to live check by check. So when people are buying in bulk and clearing the shelves it’s harder on us because I can’t afford a lot of what’s left,” said Jen Mullins on her Facebook post.
Jen Mullins post last March 16, 2020 went viral and the story behind it will surely touch your heart. Jen is currently pregnant and with the situation that we are all dealing with plus the fact that they have limited budget – it’s twice as tough.
With the usual task of getting what they need, Jen made her way to Meijer where she only had $40 on her name and she carefully picked what her family needed.
“But I made my way to Meijer (Allen Park, Mi) today and bought this. $37 worth for this… it wasn’t much but it was what I could afford for us to make dinner (with a few drinks in the basket you can’t see),” she added on her post.
She was with her 4-year old sweet boy and just like any other kid; this young boy wanted one of the cars on the cashier stand. Jen carefully explained that they can’t afford it. The little boy was sad but he no longer insisted on getting the toy.
As a parent, this situation is very hard but we have to make priorities and we have to make sure we get what we need.
Little did she know, there was someone looking at her, someone who has a good and pure heart who wanted to help her out.
“Well after all this I go to pay for our things and the cashier hands me a gift card. She then tells me the lady that was in front of me bought it and wanted me to have it but to make sure she left first.”
Jen was shocked. She didn’t expect such a kind gesture from a complete stranger.
“She got me a $50 gift card to help us out. Of course I’m pregnant and super emotional as it is and I start bawling my eyes out in line at Meijer,” Jen continued.
Imagine having just enough for you to have dinner and someone gives you money that will help you last a few more days – this kind stranger was heaven sent!
If you have ever been in Jen’s situation, you’d understand why she cried – anyone would.
“Because of her I’ll be able to get a little more if we run out before our next check. I’ll be able to get gas to get to work and not have to worry.”
She ended her story with a beautiful statement and she expressed how she wants to pay if forward someday.
