A chilling, hair-raising photo was posted on Facebook by Australian Kim Davison. The photo shows two women and four children swimming at Murphy’s Hole. However, they are adamant there were only three children with them that day. Who was the mysterious fourth child figure in the photo?
After posting the photo on Facebook, it was speculated that the fourth figure in Davison’s picture was actually the ghost of a drowning victim that had died in that exact spot 100 years ago.
The ‘face’ in the photograph was very eery; Davison explains that it appears as if the ghost is very pale with dark eyes and two dark shapes on both sides of its head.
“I’m holding the little girl and that white head next to me with horns is not human, I can promise you that,” Ms. Davison said in the Facebook post that has since been removed. “Its fingers are on my shoulder and on my daughter’s arm. They are long skeletal type fingers.”
Who was this ‘ghost girl’ and what was her story?
It was uncovered that a 13-year-old girl named Doreen O’Sullivan had drowned in that very same creek in November of 1915. Her death notice from a newspaper clipping reads:
“Doreen O Sullivan, aged 13 years, eldest daughter of Mr. James O’Sullivan was accidentally drowned whilst bathing in the Lockyer Creek on Friday afternoon. Nearly an hour elapsed before the body was recovered. The spot, which has always been considered dangerous, is known as Murphy’s Hole and is over 20 foot deep. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. The convent school children dressed in white, marching next to the hearse.”
Before the picture had even been taken, Davison recalls a few strange events that happened while they were visiting Murphy’s Hole that day.
“On this day my daughter had her leg grabbed two times by something in the water,” Davison recalled. “When I went back in for one last dip to cool off I did feel something behind me as I was walking out of the water but tried to ignore it.”
Davison was convinced that the mysterious figure in her photograph was, indeed, Doreen O’Sullivan. She posted the photo on the Toowoomba Ghost Chaser’s Facebook page which has since been removed. However, the administrators were shocked at the photo.
One of the admins of the page even posted a negative image of the photo on the page to confirm the ghostly presence saying: “Light flare will always show up as black shadowing when the photo is inverted.. and in this case, the light flare is coming from full sunlight reflecting off the water onto the child.”
Of course, after sharing the eery photo on Facebook, there were many skeptics of this “ghostly photobomb.”
Some claimed they she was “seeing what she wanted to see.” While another thought that it was just a simple splash of water reflecting light.
Once again, the admins of the expired Facebook page weren’t convinced that it was as innocent as people believed. This was far too strange and coincidental; not to mention, the picture was extremely persuasive.
“We used to swim there all the time growing up and all I can say is just to be safe I’m never swimming there again!” they wrote.
