A true miracle!

Losing a loved one is tough. It is an inevitable part of life, yet it will always make our hearts ache deeply.

Four years ago in 2015, Chastity Patterson, a 23-year-old woman who is based in Newport, Arkansas had to go through this when she lost her father. After he passed away though, she made sure to “keep in touch” with him by texting his old phone number every day. It was her way of feeling that connection with someone she missed.

Jason Ligons, the deceased man who she had been texting, was not Patterson’s biological father, but she looks at him like one. He did everything that a dad would do, according to Patterson, and he will forever remain like that in her heart.

He was seen as a father figure among many other children too, in addition to Patterson.

She took to Facebook to explain why, to her, he was a true father in every way:

“He never missed a school dance, prom, my games, and YES he would give me long talks about my mouth and attitude. I had to introduce my boyfriends to him (If I was allowed to date), and he would act like a normal dad and give us the long talk. I’ve cried with him, told him everything, and even became very independent because he took the time to love me and show me what happiness looks like.”

Since Ligons passed away, Patterson has continued to text him. Of course, she never expected a response — she did it more for comfort.

Here’s the freaky thing, though. She did eventually receive a reply, and on the day before Ligons’ four year anniversary of his death.

“It’s been four years since I lost you, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss you,” Patterson wrote in the text. “I just wanted to say I love you, and I really do miss you.”

She also shared all the ways that she has grown over the last few years. She overcame cancer, graduated college with honors, and had her heart broken before falling in love again.

“Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you. A lot has happened in that small time, but I’m sure you know since I tell you all the time,” she also wrote. “I still drive momma crazy every day, but I’m keeping her on her toes. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you need me the most, but one day we will have a chance to watch that game!”

Little did Patterson know, someone had been on the other end receiving her texts for the last four years. His name was Brad and he lost his daughter in a car crash in August 2014. He finally decided to respond to Chastity and tell her.

“Your messages have kept me alive,” Brad wrote. “When you text me, I know it’s a message from God.”

Patterson was so moved, she shared screenshots of the conversation on the Internet. Along with the screenshots, she wrote: “Today was my sign that everything is okay and I can let him rest!”
