What if we told you that a woman shut down the idea that rape is a woman’s fault with a photo of her dog? Would you believe something as bizarre and simple as that?

Well, it happened and spoiler alert, it was amazing.

Briana “Bree” Wiseman is a 22-year-old pastry chef and restaurant manager who resides in Tennessee. She shared a photo of her dog next to a plate of food on Facebook and it went viral, but not just because the dog is ridiculously cute.

It went viral because of the message that Bree attached to it.

She wrote a long and thoughtful caption that ended up being a really powerful statement on sexual assault. She simply used her dog and the plate of food as a metaphor, to put it into perspective for her friends and followers.

Her caption said:

To the people that say women get raped due to the way they are dressed. This is my dog. His favorite food is steak. He is eye level with my plate. He won’t get any closer because I told him no. If a dog is better behaved than you are, you need to reevaluate your life. Feel free to share, my dog is adorable.

Since then, the post has garnered 206k likes, over 5k comments, and was shared 324k times.

While she did get a few absurd backlash comments, most of the feedback has been extremely positive. People are very supportive of both her message and her very adorable puppy.

“No means no. Very simple. My kids and my dogs know that. I can leave a room and they won’t touch my food,” one wise person commented. “Why, because they know what the word NO means. They were taught what the difference is between Yes and No. Men who believe they have a right or they have social issues and rape, were not brought up properly and the parents or parent ignored the warning signs.”

Another person said “we need to teach respect to our children. Boys need to be taught to respect women as human beings. They will turn into good men and hopefully teach their children well.”

Even though Bree posted this a few years ago, people are still commenting and sharing their opinion to this day.

One person shared “Bree, thank you again for posting this. I had occasion to use this example to help an older lady I adore to understand the ridiculous nature of the various ‘women cause rape’ arguments. It really helped her to understand.”

While there will always be people who don’t understand this very simple idea, it is so amazing to see that Bree has made such a positive impact! People are now using this as an example to explain to their loved ones and she is overall just helping spread positive vibes, creating a safe space for people on the internet.

Bree later told The Huffington Post that she wanted to take a stand against victim-blaming with the post, mainly because she has had her own first-hand experience with sexual assault:

The only person to blame in a rape offense is the rapist. It was their decision to rape. People shouldn’t have to worry about what they chose to wear for fear of rape. I want people to see that this is a problem, and to stand together against victim-shaming.

If a 4-year-old pit bull understands the word ‘no,’ even though he is looking at something he wants so bad he is literally drooling, then adults should understand ‘no,’ no matter how the other adult is dressed… How is it that a simple-minded animal has the ability to understand better than a large part of the adult population?

She makes a great point and breaks it down in such a way that makes it very easy to digest!

We are glad that Bree thought of the idea to share this photo and use it for something great in the world. Let’s keep spreading that positivity!
