A woman was captured on camera as she ran away from a man and locked herself inside a gas station to keep him away.
The lady was said to have plotted this method of escape, and with the help of strangers in the New Jersey gas station, she successfully fled from her accused kidnapper.
The security camera inside the store captured everything that happened.
The woman was barefoot, as seen in the video, and she managed to run away from the suspect, swiftly went inside the store, and locked the deadbolt inside.
The man could only look from behind the closed door, trying to open the only thing that separated him from his victim.
The authorities did not release the woman’s name.
According to the woman, the man following her had held her captive for almost a year.
She saw the gas station and even went there before the day of her escape.
She created a plot to escape the man after seeing that the gas station had a deadbolt lock installed.
Her idea was executed successfully on a cold February morning, keeping the kidnapper from retaking her.
The alleged kidnapper fled the scene with a bike but was caught about two miles from the gas station.
After the arrest, it was found that the man suspected of kidnapping and illegal detention was James W. Parrillo Jr., 57 years old.
He is now faced with multiple charges, including kidnapping, strangulation, aggravated assault, and criminal restraint.
He is currently detained while waiting for his trial for the said charges.
The suspect is accused of kidnapping the woman he allegedly held against her will a year before her escape.
Parrillo and the woman met at a gas station along an interstate highway in New Mexico.
In her testimony, the woman stated that Parrillo had introduced himself using an alias.
He told her his name was Brett Parker and requested the woman to drive him to Arizona.
The two of them ended up having a consensual relationship for a month.
Parrillo assaulted the woman for the first time, leading her to want to stay away from the man and end their relationship.
However, she was not successful in leaving their relationship, and the suspect even confiscated her debit cards and her phone.
He used them to keep her away from her family, according to the office of New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.
The Attorney General dubbed the case as “deeply disturbing.”
“The defendant allegedly held a woman against her will for nearly a year, while traveling with her throughout the country, before ending up here in New Jersey where she was able to escape,” shared the Attorney General. “We are reaching out to law enforcement across jurisdictions to identify other people who may have additional information on the defendant. Our investigation is ongoing and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure we bring justice to this survivor.”
As it turns out, the authorities found that the accused kidnapper also had cases in the past where a couple of women alleged that he held them captive for over a year.
Thanks to the people from the gas station who called for help, the woman was able to flee from the dangerous man successfully and has finally broken free.
Things could have been worse if not for the kind hearts of those people and the woman’s courageous spirit.
