When Sofia Andrade, a woman from Massachusetts, won $200 on a scratch card lottery ticket, she was undoubtedly excited to cash it in. She wasn’t excited, however, to spend the money on herself. No, she had a much better plan for the money, a plan that warmed my heart.
There’s a man named Glenn Williams that Sofia and the rest of her community in Wareham, Massachusetts, are well aware of. Glenn had been living on the streets for the past 3 years, but had a respected reputation in the community. He was kind to everyone he encountered.
When Sofia approached Glenn and asked him if he would like to go to a local cafe with him, Glenn was overtaken by her generosity.
You see, Sofia had big plans for the money she won. She told WCVB,
“I knew that the money never really belonged to me. This money was meant to help him.”
After they enjoyed a coffee together, Sofia revealed to Glenn her next kind act.
Sofia took Glenn to the local Rosewood Motel and used more of her winnings to purchase a room for him. Massachusetts’s is known to have fierce winters, now Glenn will have a safe and warm place to sleep.
After Sofia wrote about Glenn on her Facebook, the post instantly went viral. Pretty soon, people from all over town supporting Glenn in a variety of ways, whether that was donating winter clothes or giving him a free haircut. Glenn was taken aback by everyone’s generosity,
“There’s a lot of good people in this world. I’m overwhelmed with all the help, and I just want to thank everybody.”
Glenn is looking to get his life back on track. With the help of his community and from super individuals like Sofia, we’re optimistic.
