Being yourself is one of the core aspects of beauty, but that doesn’t mean staying just the way you are. There’s a thin line between being yourself and becoming the best version of yourself.
Mary, a 68-year-old woman from Colorado, had this kind of dilemma. She was struggling to build the best version of herself amid the comments and requests that swirled around her.
If someone describes Mary, the very first thing they’ll probably say is something about her hair.
She has long greyed locks that veil her entire face. Her hair is fully silver on the roots then darkens to a light brown as it reaches the tips.
Her hair falls down just above her waist, and yes, that is a lot of hair. She explained on the YouTube channel MAKEOVERGUY that she had kept it that way because people around her were insisting on her too.
People around her were saying that her hair was beautiful and she shouldn’t cut it.
Mary doesn’t feel the same, however. It is a standard imposed on her and Mary says she feels and looks older than she is because of her long locks.
It is also cumbersome to maintain – from washing to brushing. She even said that she spends half an hour of her day just brushing her hair so they wouldn’t tangle up.
And for those who were telling her that her hair looked good on her, she also had something to say.
“And men say they like long hair. Well, my husband doesn’t even notice me, so he ain’t even going to notice it.” She said about her hair.
This is why she wanted to do something radical. She wanted to feel herself again and she wanted to be more than just the “old woman with the long hair.”
She only has one request for her makeover.
Mary shared that one of her biggest fears was that the stylist wouldn’t cut her hair short enough. She wanted it to be so short that people wouldn’t be able to help but notice her.
“I feel ugly.” She said, “I want to feel comfortable and pretty.” And with one last twirl to show off her past self, she disappears behind the curtains.
The stylist went to work and transformed Mary.
They skipped the whole makeover process to surprise Mary and the millions of viewers all over the world.
And when Mary stepped out of the curtain, no one was ready for the best version of herself.
She confidently struts with her teased and tussled short hair. Her new look pushed her age down by ten or fifteen years. She looks more vibrant, energetic, and zesty.
People all over the internet were stunned but in a good way.
“Wow! Mary looks wonderful! She looks young, sassy, and modern. I hope her husband looks at her now.” Said one commenter.
“This was the perfect haircut for her facial features, now her hair isn’t hiding her delicate features.” Said another.
