When Chrissy Corbitt first laid eyes on her fifth child, Carleigh Brooke, she got the surprise of a lifetime. Instead of the newborn being a small bundle of joy, she was actually a big bouncy baby weighing in at 13-pounds 5-ounces!
Seeing an infant so enormous was shocking to the Florida mom and her husband Larry – not to mention, everyone else in the delivery room. However, they did have a major clue beforehand going upon Chrissy’s pregnancy.
Her belly kept growing and growing…
With four children already, Chrissy was practically a pro when it came to being pregnant. So she could tell that her stomach was getting “bigger and bigger.”
Sure, this is a natural part of the process, but it seemed to be a little different… They were only having one baby too!
In an interview with Inside Edition, Chrissy explained:
“She felt so heavy inside me – it was just horrible.”
The day Chrissy went in for her C-section it was finally revealed just how large of a newborn she was carrying. What everyone saw caused mouths to drop.
She recalled what the doctor had to say as he was delivering Carleigh.
“When he was pulling her out of me he was like, ‘This baby is never going to end.'”
There’s nothing more exciting than laying eyes on your precious baby for the first time. But instead of a tiny newborn, the mom felt like the nurses were actually showing her a small child!
Chrissy told Inside Edition:
“When they held her around the curtain for me I just couldn’t believe how big she was. I felt like I was looking at a toddler, I was like ‘Oh my god she’s gonna walk to the nursery.'”
Sweet Carleigh Brooke came into the world weighing 13-pounds 5-ounces. Because of her large size, the staff had to use diapers meant for older infants instead of the itty-bitty ones.
According to the Parents website, the average infant weighs between 5-pounds 11-ounces and 8-pounds 6-ounces at birth, with many factors helping determine the size.
Yet, that doesn’t mean there aren’t bigger (and smaller) babies born every day too! Just like the Australian mom who birthed her over 12-pound son naturally without any pain medication…yikes.
Chrissy and Larry had prepared for their fifth child, but they had to make some adjustments once they took her home.
The couple had purchased newborn clothes for Carleigh that just wouldn’t fit. Instead, they had to buy a wardrobe sized for a 9-month-old.
Here’s an interesting fact. The heaviest baby in history, according to Guinness World Records, weighed 22-pounds at birth!
As you’ll see, Carleigh is one gorgeous-looking baby that’s bringing lots of love to her family.
Larry is also super proud of his wife for being so strong throughout it all. He expressed his compliments saying that Chrissy’s a “warrior” and “a great mom.”
