Giving birth is no easy feat regardless of the circumstances. Yet, one mom from Sydney, Australia had mouths dropping when she welcomed a 12lb 6oz son into the world – all without any pain medication.

The joyous and record-breaking birth took place at the Blacktown Hospital, where they told the parents they’d never had a baby quite so big. In fact, their story is so impressive that it’s been talked about across the globe.

28-year-old Nikki Bell wasn’t a first-time mom when she went into labor at 39 weeks. She did, however, have a heads up that her baby, Parker James, wouldn’t be such a “little” bundle of joy.

According to The Daily Telegraph, it was estimated that Parker was already 3.5kg at Nikki’s 24-week pregnancy appointment. That’s just over 7.7lbs!

She explained:

“My first baby went until 41 weeks and 3 days — lucky I didn’t go that far he would have been 6kg plus.”

Despite knowing what was ahead, Nikki still opted to have a natural, vaginal birth. She was successful in getting through the two-and-a-half-hour labor without turning to pain medicine.

Parker weighed 5.755kg (over 12lbs), which has left a lot of us feeling numb just thinking about it.

While giving birth to a baby that size without an epidural seems like an accomplishment worth cheering for, Nikki played it down more, saying:

“I’m sure all births hurt, whether it’s 1.7kg of 5.7kg — they all hurt.”

After Parker’s giant entrance into the world on Nov. 1, 2018, the Blacktown Midwifery Group posted photos on Facebook along with a congratulatory message to the family.

It read:

“This gorgeous chunky boy was born on Thursday to one of our MGP Mums, Nikki. He weighed in at a record breaking 5.755kg (12lb 6oz for the old school) and was a natural birth with no complications. We are happy to report the not so little Parker and Mum Nikki are doing well. Parker was one lucky baby going home with his mom, dad, and 20-month-old sibling, Maddison. As for his future, his parents have some ideas that could work well for his larger size.

Nikki told The Daily Telegraph:

“Hopefully he will be a bit of a football player, maybe a front rower, that’ll keep his dad happy.”
