Tinder has a lot of pros and cons on both sides. There are some beautiful success stories of couples who met on the notorious dating app and are now happily married.

But it certainly has its dark side, and a lot of people choose to use the technology for evil.

Instagram accounts like Tinder Nightmares and Swipes4Daddy post screenshots of how poorly some people can treat their “matches”. It can be truly shocking, but it’s an unfortunate reality of how people can behave when they’re anonymous.

And this young woman lived a real life example of how unnecessarily terrible someone can be.

Thea Chippendale was swiping through Tinder when she received some very unsolicited “advice” from a stranger.

For whatever reason, George, decided to send a message to Thea, not because he was interested, but because he wanted to say something hurtful.

“Not gonna lie you’re a bit of a joke but that dress in the last photo is not doing any favours. Hope this helps,” he wrote, punctuating his message with a thumbs up emoji.

Thea knew this troll was only out to hurt her feelings, and wasn’t having any of it. She fired back.

Thea was understandably revolted and shared their exchange on Twitter with the caption,

“men are trash. (included the pic he’s on about)”.

While she obviously doesn’t think all men are trash, it can be taxing to take that kind of attack from someone online! And nasty comments like this happen far too often, so she was fed up and wanted to expose this guy.

Of course, all her followers were supportive and chimed in with encouraging messages.

Commenters pointed out how rude he was and was intentionally looking for some sort of reaction.

If he didn’t like the dress he simply could have swiped left and moved on.

Some even shared similar stories of awful things that had been said to them on Tinder.

It’s safe to say Thea definitely isn’t alone!

But there was also a huge response from people who fully disagreed with awful George, and wanted to know where they could get that dress he hated so much.

So Thea would consistently reply to her supportive followers letting them know that she got the dress from ASOS, an online clothing retailer based in the UK.

When ASOS got word of Thea’s story and saw she was wearing one of their dresses, they decided to do something about it. They made her a model.

Thea was invited to the ASOS offices where she met with the team and talked about her experience. Now, her photo was all over the internet wearing what that troll had such an issue with.

Is there a sweeter revenge than that?

ASOS has a unique approach to how they choose their models.

They prefer to represent their entire customer base instead of displaying all their clothes on women who wear a size zero.

“We’re always looking at how we can diversify the ASOS model family and know a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for our customers. Finding models that represent all our customers is important to us, so we try and book models that reflect and appeal to our diverse and inclusive international customer base.”

They also make clothing for people of all shapes and sizes, from 2-30 UK (00-26 US).

It’s so great that Thea had the confidence to share these messages that were intended to harm, and turn them into something awesome instead!

She now has more than 100,000 likes on her Twitter post and has inspired other women not put up with comments like these over social media.
