Christopher Hopkins, aka ‘The Makeover Guy,’ first discovered his passion for makeovers when he played with his sister’s dolls as a child. Since then, he’s opened multiple salons and given hundreds of women life-changing makeovers. Another major inspiration for Hopkins has always been his mother, Joann.
Since the makeup artist was small, he watched his glamorous mom get dolled up every single morning. He was the only one that had ever seen her without her “face” on.
“I watched my mother put her face on every morning for years. No one sees her without makeup. She’s always said she’d rather answer the door without her clothes on than without her makeup,” Hopkins said on YouTube.
Hopkins’ love of makeup and beauty even led him to write a book titled “Staging Your Comeback, A Complete Beauty Revival For Women Over 45.” His mother isn’t only the muse for the book, but she is also his biggest fan.
Joann is now 73-years-old. She agreed to remove all of her makeup (and her wig!) to show the world her entire morning routine. It had been 50 years since anyone but Hopkins has seen her bare-faced.
“Is this cute or what?” Joann says as she first removes her stylish wig.
All of Joann’s makeup is removed, and regardless of if she’s wearing makeup or not, it’s evident that she is a gorgeous woman. Her poise and demeanor while baring her face to the world is truly something to be admired.
After a quick haircut, Joann gets to work. First, she begins priming her skin with moisturizer and foundation. Next up, here comes the powder. The beautiful woman draws on some red lips and starts to get to work on her eye makeup. It’s incredible to watch her treat her face like a canvas.
Once her look is complete, she says that she feels more like herself again.
“Of course, I think she’s beautiful with or without, she’s just not “who she is” without it. When who you are is expressed by how you look, you’re beautiful. She’s not the woman without the makeup. Just the way it is,” Hopkins adds on YouTube.
A study by the Harris poll showed that nearly half of American women feel less attractive or unattractive if they aren’t wearing makeup. The study also found that about one-quarter of women started wearing makeup at the age of 13 or younger.
Joann’s bare-faced reveal is below. But remember, whether you’re embracing your natural beauty or like to doll it up a bit, you don’t “need” makeup — you’re beautiful!
