Everybody loves a can of cold soda once in a while, especially on hot days. But this great-grandmother from Carshalton, Surrey in England takes it to a whole new level.
Jackie Page, 77, claims that she has been drinking nothing but Pepsi for the last 60 years.
After cracking her first can of the beverage when she was just 13 years old in 1954, she has consumed up to four cans of it a every day.
Not an addiction
Now, now you might be thinking, isn’t this some sort of sugar or caffeine addiction?
Well, Page herself doesn’t think so.
“I don’t call it an addiction. It’s just something I like, and I can’t help it if I don’t like anything else. Some people might think it’s weird, but I don’t care. I’ve been drinking it every single day since 1954.”

She also shares exactly how she likes her Pepsi:
“I don’t like it from a bottle, only from a can. I like to drink Pepsi fresh straight from the can, and it has to be cold.”
For Page, her Pepsi habit is just like how regular are with their tea or coffee.
“I have one as soon as I wake up each day straight from the fridge. It’s like when someone says they want to drink a lovely cup of tea first thing in the morning, I drink up a lovely can of Pepsi.”
That’s a lot of Pepsi, but she has a point. How different is it from having a coffee or tea with sugar in the morning?
60 years of nothing but Pepsi
Page’s preference for Pepsi began at a young age.
As a child, she just refused to drink milk or water. She even rejected lemonade when her mother tried to get her to drink something besides Pepsi.
Nothing much changed as she grew into adulthood. In fact, she says that just the smell of tea or coffee could make her feel sick.
“I have never drank water – and even if I was dying [of thirst] no way would I.”
In the six decades of her drinking just Pepsi, it is estimated that she has consumed over 93,000 cans of the popular caffeinated soda. If you do the math, this adds up to about 6.615 pounds of sugar from her beverages alone.
Given this shockingly large number, you might be wondering how Page’s health has been doing.
Health effects
Really well apparently.
“I don’t think Pepsi has affected my health either. I have always been really, really slim until about five years ago but I think that’s because I don’t do much now. I am not as active as I was.”
However, she admits that even she is surprised about the status of her health:
“To be honest, I don’t know how I have lived so long.”
But dietitian and British Dietetic Association spokesperson Nicole Rothband has an explanation:
“Drinking four cans of sugary drink on its own, while I wouldn’t recommend it, might not have a massive impact if the rest of the diet and the overall lifestyle is relatively healthy.”
Well, there you have it. Having one vice might not be so bad as long as you do your best to live a healthy lifestyle otherwise.
Since Page’s only vice is her Pepsi habit, it might not have had such a big impact on her overall health as one might think. The fact that she is alive and kicking at the age of 77 seems to be proof of that.
