When it comes to one of life’s greatest experiences, what do you think of? Perhaps the biggest adjustment you’ll ever go through is right after becoming a parent. It’s a whirlwind of emotions…excitement, fear, joy, and stress all at the same time. This is why parents spend so long planning for the birth of a child, ensuring everything is in place by the time the baby arrives.
But just imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have nine months of preparation. Bringing a baby into the world under those conditions would be crazy. Now, what if you only had two hours’ notice.
That’s what happened to Lizzie Quah from Bloomington, Illinois
Lizzie was a normal 23-year-old just living her life. But one day last year, she woke up at 2:30 a.m. in an incredible amount of pain. She knew she needed help as soon as possible, so she asked her mom for assistance.
She thought she knew what was going on
Lizzie had a kidney stone in the past. And the feeling she was having when she woke up in the middle of the night felt just the same. But she did say it hurt way more than the last one. So, her mom took her to the hospital. Little did she know, it wasn’t a kidney stone at all.
The doctors ran some tests
Whenever you go to the hospital, it’s necessary for doctors to run standard tests. Lizzie was in pain. While the doctors wanted to give her painkillers, they had to make sure she wasn’t pregnant. Lizzie wasn’t worried.
The test came back positive
To Lizzie’s extreme surprise, the pregnancy test came back positive. Not only was she already pregnant, but she was in active labor. Come to find out, she was dilated eight centimeters by the time she had her first exam.
Time for delivery
Just two hours after finding out she was pregnant, Lizzie gave birth to a baby girl. She named her daughter Winnie June. The little girl weighed just 6lbs 7oz.
Facing health problems
In addition to the shock of finding out she was pregnant, Lizzie had to deal with some especially uncomfortable medical problems. She had toxemia, placenta previa, and preeclampsia. Luckily, she was able to pull through and ended up being okay.
Posting on her Instagram
After such a crazy event, Lizzie wanted to tell the world what had just happened to her. She said, “All the cautions and questions and choices that seemed so important before are irrelevant now. This is where we are. This is who we will be. This is how life is.”
She continued
After that, Lizzie wrote, “My joy, my wonder, my windfall was born June 23rd at 7:13 a.m. A tiny baby girl 6 pounds and 7 ounces, 20 inches long. She is pink and perfect and sweet and beautiful. I am overcome by wonder and happiness and instinct. I am now a mama.”
Turning one
Winnie June might have come into the world in a strange way, but she’s now a healthy and happy baby. She’s growing up fast already. And this month, she’ll be celebrating her first birthday. It’s sure to be a happy occasion for the entire family.
People have been skeptical
Some individuals were skeptical about Lizzie’s story. After all, it does sound pretty crazy. She said she’d gained some weight but it wasn’t anything serious. Little did she know what was really going on.
Luckily, both mom and baby are healthy and happy.
