It’s a situation that can cause that feeling of a mini heart attack.

Trish Ryan from Ohio got hungry while driving so she pulled into the drive thru of a Burger King.

She orders her food and drives up to pay using her credit card, like many others.

Until she sees the cashier hesitate with her card, so she decided to watch him very closely.

“I saw him grab his phone line it up, hover it over something on the counter, took a picture, then he did some more handwork and then he took another picture and gave me my receipt,” Ryan said.

“So I said, ‘Hey, I just saw you take a picture of my card.’ He’s like, ‘No, I didn’t,’ and he continued to argue with me.”

Ryan spoke to the general manager, who in turn confiscated the employee’s phone.

A phone which contained images of many other credit cards.

Her cool head and quick thinking worked.

The manager called police and Ryan called the bank to cancel her card.

“I have an employee that’s been taking pictures of people’s credit cards. I took his phone from him because a customer saw him do it and he has more than one credit card on here.” the general manager told 911.

And all Ryan wanted was a burger and soda at the Hamilton branch.

Hamilton Police investigated the crime and as of Wednesday, the Burger King employee was not facing any charges.

But he did lose his job.

Better to work honestly.

Police spoke about the incident, saying it is recommended that citizens watch cashiers when paying at the drive-thru and other establishments.

They suggest using cash or a gift card.

Citizens who insist on using a credit or debit card need to make sure to regularly check their bank statements.

What the cashier’s intentions were with all those images of cards, no one knows.

Now if you lose your credit card or find that someone, somehow, found a way to use it, you just have to:

  • Contact Your Credit Card Company.
  • File a Police Report.
  • Contact Your Bank.
  • Change Your Automatic Payments.
  • Monitor Your Credit Report.

It is a hassle and super annoying but it is the way to deal with such a crime.

Credit card companies do have a way to track where your stolen credit card was last used.

You just need to provide them with the details of the transaction done. It is the first step since reporting to law enforcement may take time. Have the bank trace and cancel it.

Then you can give all the details to the police.

Ryan did the right thing by watching the cashier, as most people would be looking at their phones or some other form of distraction. Can’t be too trusting nowadays.

So if you’re faced with a situation where your card may be stolen, keep calm and call the bank or speak immediately to the manager like Ryan did.
