Ivy had a special occasion in mind for this dress—a masquerade ball in Seattle.

Rather than opting for a rented or store-bought gown, she decided to unleash her creative prowess.

The end result was so extraordinary that we bet attendees were buzzing about where they could snag one for themselves.

Ivy’s knack for creativity didn’t come out of nowhere.

Growing up, she was inspired by her mother and grandmother, both of whom were into sewing.

Although she never received formal training, it’s evident that the creative gene runs strong in her family.

At one point, Ivy had an Instagram account brimming with her artistic endeavors, but unfortunately, it’s no longer active.

However, her whimsical designs haven’t disappeared; you can still find them on Instagram under the handle @the_sewlo_artist.

The inspiration for this transformative gown came after Ivy attended a performance of “Cinderella.”

She was captivated by the iconic scene where Cinderella’s rags magically morph into a stunning ballgown.

This sparked Ivy to create her own slice of enchantment.

In her video, Ivy revealed, “The most difficult part about getting this gown from concept to reality was figuring out how to do the transformation in one smooth motion.”

To pull off this feat, she ingeniously incorporated a snap panel at the front and a series of laces at the back.

By tugging a single cord, the top layer of the dress would release, revealing a hidden butterfly design underneath.

The real challenge? Slipping out of the sleeves gracefully, which Ivy managed to do with aplomb.

As Ivy twirls, the gown metamorphoses into a magnificent monarch butterfly.

It’s a sight to behold, and the video showcasing this transformation is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Ivy, who identifies as an “English teacher by day and seamstress by night,” has been flooded with inquiries about her butterfly dress.

Despite her modesty—claiming it’s “straight up amateur hour” in terms of construction—her innovation has inspired many to try replicating it.

The materials? Eight sets of butterfly scarf wings from eBay and satin from Joann’s bargain bin.

All in all, the dress cost her a mere $100, proving that you don’t need a fairy godmother—or a big budget—to make magic happen.
