If you want to know how to gain a reputation in the hospital, just ask Kennedy Zarour.
The New Jersey man was attending the birth of his sixth child when his wife caught the video of him learning the baby’s gender.
Zarour was the father of five girls.
As he sat at his wife’s side during her C-section, neither of them knew whether they were having a boy or a girl. But after five girls, they expected they’d have another.
So, when the doctor announced that the baby was a boy, Zarour lost his cool with excitement.
“I love it!” he shouted. “Yeah, baby! I got a boy!”
He planted a kiss on his wife and paced back and forth with his head in his hands.
Jumping up and down, spinning in circles, Zarour yelled ecstatically until the doctor had to ask him to sit down.
“I was just waiting for them to tell me it was a girl, and they told me it was a boy, and I guess my reaction was a little insane,” he said. “I couldn’t believe I got that excited,” he said. “I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just running around that place like a madman.”
Natalie Zarour said it was totally worth not learning the gender to get a reaction like that from her husband.
Zarour, 53, had three daughters with his current wife — Mia, 5, Jolie, 3, and Giselle, 18 months. He also had twin daughters from a previous marriage — Colette and Ariana, 20.
But Natalie Zarour says it wasn’t a matter of being happy to have a boy as much as simply being shocked. She says that she and her husband are thrilled with the addition of their son.
“It wasn’t a case of being excited,” she said. “We were both stunned. After 5 girls, the odds seemed to be against us, so we couldn’t help but celebrate.”
Zarour’s ecstatic reaction earned him a degree of notoriety among the staff at Hackensack University Medical Center in Westwood, New Jersey.
He said for the rest of their stay, nurses pointed him out in the hall. It seemed the story of his stunned outburst had made its way through the halls of the hospital.
But if anyone thinks Zarour was putting on a sexist display, he was quick to say that he would have been very excited to have a sixth daughter.
“I adore all my kids, and I would’ve been very happy with a girl, but it was definitely a nice surprise,” he said.
As for their daughters, they were absolutely in love with baby Gerard.
Zarour said they treat him like a toy and can barely keep their hands off of him. There’s no doubt the little boy has come into the world surrounded by a lot of love.
As for Zarour, he’s learned the OR isn’t the best place for jumping up and down and screaming. But if you’re going to do it, that’s the perfect moment.
