A child’s birthday party is a great opportunity to have some fun. Sure, the party is for the child whose birthday it is, but it can also be for the parents! After all, they are the ones buying the materials and putting the whole thing together… Might as well have some fun with it.
There are also tons of great themes to choose from, like Disney princesses, Star Wars, circus, pajama party, etc.
For the first birthday party especially, there can be a lot of pressure. Excitement, sure, but also some pressure. It is your kid’s first birthday party ever, you wanna make ’em proud!
This one family was gearing up to celebrate their son’s first birthday when they decided on the most unpredictable theme: Costco.
Just to clarify, yes we mean Costco the grocery store! Not a terribly exciting theme at first glance, but the parents really ended up outdoing themselves and got pretty creative with the whole idea. It is safe to say they most certainly did not hold back.
The mother of the family, Josie, was gearing up for her son Mason’s birthday. She also has a 4-year-old daughter named Madison.
“My husband, Sebastian, and I have been married for six years,” Josie told Bored Panda. “He’s a financial advisor, so making smart financial decisions is literally his job. Which is a direct correlation with his love for Costco.” Sebastian is also responsible for choosing the theme, which now makes perfect sense.
“The party theme was pretty last minute, so it came together in about two weeks,” Josie said. “My husband decided we should do a Costco theme for the birthday party. It sounded completely absurd to me, so I immediately started bringing his vision to life.”
The party was also happening around Halloween and the family’s friends kept sending memes of kids and dogs dressed up as Costco employees.
“We knew we wanted Mason to be the focus, hence the Employee of the Year poster board we made. We bought a cheap balloon arch frame because our daughter kept calling his party a Grand Opening, and then we made the name badges, printed out signs for the food, and bought a set of red lunch trays to serve ‘samples,’ the woman couldn’t stress how easy it was to make it all happen. Our local Costco loved the theme and provided us with a membership poster that they happened to have lying around.”
“Why does he love Costco and Costco’s Kirkland brand? Quality, consistency, and savings,” the mother continued. “My husband’s idea of taking the kids to lunch is going to Costco around noon on a Saturday and eating samples.”
“A couple months ago, she asked my husband where babies come from, he told her Costco… I’ve since had to squash that theory so she would stop asking, ‘Where do you think they keep the babies?’ every time we went there.”
Costco truly takes over the family’s life and is pretty much the source of everything in their home, from diapers to baby food.
“It’s not like our son knew what was going on, the theme obviously wasn’t for him. It was for us,” Josie continued. “Besides, if we had to pick a theme to reflect things Mason enjoys, the theme would have been clapping and trying to eat [crap] that isn’t food”.
Judging by the photos, Josie and Sebastian hit the nail on the head!
