There is an old Yiddish saying that goes something like this: “Man plans, and God laughs”. This little truth echoes nowhere more loudly than it does during a wedding ceremony. Countless brides can tell you of how if you planned for something specifically, your plans are almost sure to go awry. Whether or not the ceremony still turns out to be an enjoyable one, though, depends entirely on attitude. That is precisely what Brittany and Sean Tuohy’s wedding ceremony proved when it was suddenly crashed by a snowstorm. Though the Tuohys’ live in Arizona, they were both raised in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and shared a love for its Autumn weather. So, the couple decided on a fall wedding in Washington on the majestic Mt. Spokane, and they circled the date for September 28th.
Little did they know an unseasonal Arctic front would be moving in that day, bringing a blizzard in with it.
The unexpected blizzard blasted its way through various regions in at least 8 western states, Spokane in Eastern Washington among them. The ice-cold, wind-whipped snowstorm took everyone by surprise that day, including the wedding photographer, Jaime Fletcher.
“Whoever would’ve thought we’d get an actual BLIZZARD on Mt. Spokane on September 28th? WITH LIKE AN ACTUAL FOOT OF SNOW AND COUNTING? Not me. Not anyone,” wrote Fletcher on her business Facebook page, Jaime Denise Photography.
The couple had chosen Bear Creek Lodge as the venue to host their outdoor wedding, located roughly an hour out of downtown Spokane. While the couple could have easily gotten upset at the last minute snowstorm, instead, they laughed it off and took the winter storm in stride.
“These two were absolute champions changing their completely OUTDOOR wedding to a COMPLETELY INDOOR Wedding last minute… and they even let me take them outside for a few photos – we literally were only out there for 10 minutes because the winds ALL day were so out of control. This one was just as the snow REALLY started to get bad,” Fletcher’s post continues.
Brittany and Sean’s amazing attitude about the unfolding winter weather situation inspired their photographer to take advantage of the surprise snowstorm by snapping a handful of remarkable photos.
The images depict a breathtaking winter wonderland wedding.
The impromptu wild weather photoshoot inspired the rest of the wedding party to join in on the blizzardly fun…all 12 of them. True friends of the bride and groom, six groomsmen and six bridesmaids braved the weather in nothing but their ceremony attire to give their friends the wedding photos of a lifetime. The entire photo op may have only last about 10 minutes, but you can tell by the images that the weather grew colder and the snow got thicker with each moment that passed. Freezing as they may have been, the color scheme of the Tuohys’ wedding party couldn’t have complimented the magical wintry backdrop more. The ice blue bridesmaid’s gowns and the groomsmen’s white and blue plaid shirts framed Brittany’s snowy white, mermaid-cut gown perfectly against the snowy scene. The rich red roses in the center of the bouquets added a brilliant pop of color to the photos. Fletcher ended her post with a huge shout out to the bride and groom, whose perseverance, positivity, and unique perspective allowed the entire wedding party to adapt to the snowstorm on the fly and have a blast while doing it.

“THANK YOU to Brittany & Sean for having the best attitude about the uncontrollable atmosphere. You made the chaos absolutely beautiful! Your love for each other warmed all of us ❤” Fletcher’s post ends.
After sharing the photos to Facebook, Fletcher’s post went insanely viral, warming the hearts of millions more with their fun-loving spirits.
If there’s anything to take away from their unexpected yet stunning photo op, it’s that a talented and adaptable wedding photographer like Fletcher is worth her weight in gold.
