The dress has been “in the family” since 1950.

The tradition began when Adele Larson walked the aisle to marry Roy Stoneber in 1950. Since then, it was worn 8 times and is now considered their precious family heirloom.

The dress is a satin gown with a mandarin collar, paneled with lace adorably set in front and back. Small buttons accentuate the overall gown.

Adele saw this dress at Marshall Field’s department store in Chicago.

Adele had no idea that this dress will become the family’s most prized possession.

The price was $100.75

Back when the dress was bought, a fair amount by today’s standards. But what makes it priceless is its value in the form of sentiment and it keeps the family tradition alive.

The second to wear the dress was Adele’s younger sister, Elly Larson. Their mother back then advised her to purchase a wedding dress but she decided to use Adele’s instead.

Elly exchanged vows with John Milton in June 1953. The third bride to wear the gown was Sharon Larson, who followed the footsteps of her older sisters.

John Frank was the lucky man she married in May 1969.

Sharon took pride in wearing the dress and the joy it brought her on the wedding day. It was more of a celebration of family bonds than an obligation.

So the tradition set sail.

The journey continued unto the second generation. Sue Stoneberg, Adele’s daughter, was the first of the next generation to wear the dress down the aisle in 1982.

It was followed by Elly’s daughter.

Carol Milton stepped into the dress in 1990 and got married to Lawrence Zmuda.

It was a decision made effortlessly as she was inspired by her admiration for the women who wore the dress before her.

Carol’s sister, Jean Milton, was the next to wear the dress in 1991 and kept the family tradition going.

More than a decade after, it was Julie Frank Mackey’s turn to use the dress. She’s the daughter of Sharon.

Julie did, however, made some slight variations to the dress with a ribbon hem and an open neckline.

The baton is passed to the 3rd generation.

Serena Stoneberg, Adele’s granddaughter, was the 8th in the family to wear the dress, and the first of the 3rd generation to walk the aisle on that dress in August 2022.

How is the dress being kept?
