Dance films from the 1980s are seriously the best, don’t deny it. You’ve got “Flashdance”, “Footloose”, and of course, “Dirty Dancing”. While not all 80s dance films made it on the list of blockbuster movies, these three are undeniably in the top five of timeless favorites. You didn’t have to grow up during the decade to hold an appreciation for its films, music, and aesthetic.
Ever wondered why today’s dancers, both aspiring and professional ones, take their cue from these classics? They show more than just impressive choreography. The dancing is mixed seamlessly with an interesting storyline, a great soundtrack, and that 80s fashion some of us can’t help but love.
In fact, one couple loved “Dirty Dancing” so much they decided to make it part of their wedding reception in the best way possible.
After going through the traditional cake tasting, slow dancing, wine drinking routine at their reception, Aaron and Stefania decided to put on a show for everybody present.
The minute the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” came on, the guests started applauding – both at the familiar tune and the performance that was about to unfold before them. The tall groom beamed down at his bride as they prepared to dance. When the couple began to move in time with the beat, their audience broke into cheers and whistles.
You could tell this was something they were both looking forward to.
More than the music and the theme, it was clear that even in dancing, the two were compatible.
While “Dirty Dancing” is a great movie overall, there’s just something so incredible about the epic scene towards the end of the film. No wonder the newlyweds were all smiles as they danced. The effort they put into practicing was evident. They were both graceful and charming as they moved across the floor, complementing each other perfectly.
While the couple danced, screens behind them showed footage of their “dance rehearsals”, both indoors and outdoors. The beautiful bride’s dress swirled beautifully with each turn, while the groom’s casually rolled up sleeves gave off the same cool vibe Patrick Swayze had in the film.
As the most awaited part of the number neared, the couple maintained composure and danced as they moved to different positions, smiling the entire time. The adoring way they looked at each other really set off the dance. When it was finally time to close the performance with the same incredible move from the film, members of the entourage and some wedding guests couldn’t help but stand and move closer so they could film it all.
In the movie, the setting was at an end-of-season talent show where Patrick Swayze suddenly shows up, brings Jennifer Grey on stage, and proceeds to tell her he’s really in love with her – honestly the perfect intro before they performed the dance they practiced the entire summer.
Aaron and Stefania definitely nailed it, especially the lift at the end.
Unlike in the film, no one else joined in on the dancing but that didn’t make Aaron and Stefania’s number any less incredible. Imagine the work they put in rehearsing – in the middle of all the wedding planning!
Most couples prefer to take it easy during the wedding reception as a way of finally taking a breather, but this happy couple defied expectations in the best and most creative way possible. The epic ending to their dance had jaws dropping and arms raising. What a way to announce your ‘couple style’ to the world. It’s definitely going to be hard to top this one.
