Wayne Woodward An Unassuming 20-Year-Old Blew Away The Judges When He Invoked Frank Sinatra sauntered onto television for his first time on Britain’s Got Talent.
He looked fairly unassuming with his neatly trimmed hair, big grin, and black hoodie.
The twenty-year-old from Sutton in Surrey in England was friendly. He was full of smiles and jokes and earned himself the title of “cheeky-chappie” among the audience and judges.
He joked with the judges. He also spoke about how he had become interested in music, and what had gotten him as far as the stage he was standing on.
Wayne and Music
Wayne said that all he wanted to do in life was sing. His biggest dream was making it into the industry, but he hadn’t had a lot of luck other than the small gigs he had been getting.
The performance he was about to give would make all of his dreams seem possible.
Family Love and Support
Wayne’s family came to watch him perform, and there’s no doubt why they did. His mom, dad, and three older sisters have been a huge supportive influence in his life.
He started singing around the age of six. Wayne’s dad noticed his interest and encouraged him. He even had Wayne perform in the pub he had owned back then.
Wayne jokes that he wasn’t really that good back then and no one actually wanted to hear him. We think he might be downplaying his talent a little bit. When asked if he had a job, Wayne explained that he was currently singing in bars, restaurants, clubs, and even weddings. That doesn’t sound like someone without talent to us.
He also said he had a day job doing some construction. He assured the judges that he was helping out with finances at home, but even that he couldn’t resist adding a joke about it.
The Performance
When the music started playing, the choice surprised everyone. It was Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight. The completely unexpected old style singing voice that came from Wayne fit it perfectly – and what a voice!
The crowd cheered as he sang the old tune and brought It back to life and into relevance once more. As he belted out the words and transported us into a more classic era, he still kept up his smile and lively appearance that was classic modern Wayne.
Even the judges were getting into it. There was some definite shoulder moving going on with the music among them. Some of the audience were even dancing in their chairs. Wayne’s parents were ecstatic. His dad was so engaged that he nearly fell out of his chair at one point.
The Result
The judges shared their amazement after the song was over. Even Simon loved it despite a few spots in the singing where he felt that Wayne lost his way a little. They tallied their results and it was decided, Wayne would be going on to become a finalist!
In the end, he would make it to the end of the season, only beat out for the final spot by one other singer – Richard Jones.
With a start singing at a pub when he was still only a child, he went on to sweep us away and stayed with us for a season. Hopefully, we’ll see more of Wayne Woodward as his career and talent continue to grow.
