What do you think it would take to stop a cannonball? A wall of legos? A bulletproof vest? A Chevy truck? How about 50,000 magnets? It’s a question we think about all the time. However, thanks to a group of guys on the YouTube channel MrBeast, now we finally have the answers.
The guys decided to test out all of these things recently to see exactly how powerful a cannon really is.
Their ridiculous results might surprise you.
First off, we can rule out the wall of legos.
To no one’s surprise, it was not strong enough to block a cannon assault. The cannonball shot right through it.
However, the next test where they blasted a cannon at a mannequin wearing a bulletproof vest was much more interesting.
“Let’s say you become a cop one night and a guy robs a convenience store and he comes out with a cannon. Is your vest going to protect you?” the guys asked.
After they fired, they went in for a closer look. They found that the vest actually caught the cannonball and did not rip. However, the mannequin underneath the vest took a pretty bad beating. It was shattered. The final conclusion? If your chest was made of steel you would be fine.
Next, they blasted a cannonball through a vending machine. Right after that, a white Chevy truck.
The cannonball completely destroyed both of them. On the truck, it damaged the door so badly that they couldn’t even open it.
The most interesting of all the tests though was when they tried to stop a cannonball with 50,000 magnets.
They lined up the cannon so it would shoot parallel to a wall covered in the magnets. The end target was a big watermelon. The guys wanted to see if the wall of magnets would be strong enough to stop the cannonball from continuing on its course towards the watermelon.
Where exactly do you get 50,000 magnets from? We aren’t entirely sure, but we were definitely very excited to see what would happen.
Unfortunately, it was somewhat anti-climatic.
The magnets did absolutely nothing. They fired the cannon and the magnets didn’t pull the cannonball off its course one bit. It was bad news for the poor watermelon. It splattered into a million pieces.
Out of all of the tests the guys did, they only actually found one item that was able to successfully stop a cannonball — bulletproof glass.
Surprisingly, the bulletproof glass withstood the full force of the cannon, sending the cannonball bouncing right back in the other direction.
Next time we are out in our pirate ship sailing around the high seas we’ll have to keep that in mind. In case of an epic cannon battle breaking out, all that we’ll need to survive is a big bulletproof glass shield.
“Now I’m confused, why didn’t Blackbeard just have bulletproof glass?” one of the guys asked after the test.
It’s a pretty good question, and if Blackbeard was still alive today, we would like to ask him, but at least we got the main question answered. We’ve always wondered about what it would take to stop a cannonball in its tracks, and thanks to the crew at MrBeast, now we know.
