Living until your 90th birthday is definitely a moment to be celebrated. It is a big milestone that connects family and friends, old and young, as the life of a special person is honoured.
When a friend or family member has an important birthday, most of us will celebrate by meeting up, sharing gifts, eating delicious food and spending some quality time with that person.
We want to remind them that they are loved by us all, as well as it being a fun day that everyone will enjoy.
But right now, coronavirus is putting a stop to some of these celebrations- especially for those who are old and vulnerable.
We want to make sure that the people we love most stay in the best health.
Milton Eatchel of Utah has just turned 90. His family were going to travel from all areas of the country to party with him, but sadly it is unsafe for him to see them right now because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He is also a war veteran. In the 1950’s, he served for the Air Force during the Korean War. He really is a true hero who deserves to have his birthday celebrated.
Milton sadly lost his wife seven years ago, and really looks forward to family gatherings.
Birthdays are especially a time where you want to be surrounded by those you love most.
The couple have six children and plenty of grandchildren, so Milton is used to his birthdays being a busy day full of lots of love.
But Coronavirus has ruined the family’s plans for this important milestone.
Luckily, Milton’s neighbors step in to make sure that his special day is still celebrated.
When Milton and his daughter return from an outing, they are met with a touching surprise. As they drive down the street, neighbors emerge from each house holding banners, balloons and some even bearing gifts to celebrate Milton’s birthday.
“Happy Birthday, Milt. You’re the best of all of us.”
“Dad, you’re a celebrity.”
A family hold up a homemade sign decorated in bright colors, whilst two little girls hold colourful streamers. Further down the road, more neighbors hold up homemade signs, and some are even taped to bins lining the street. A woman passes Milton a bright pink bag containing a birthday gift.
Everywhere you look, people are coming out of their houses to celebrate with Milton and show just how appreciated he is by them all.
And most importantly, Milton is remaining safe. Everyone is keeping a good social distance away whilst still being there to celebrate Milton’s birthday.
You can truly see how special Milton is to everybody who knows him. His neighbors are incredible for making sure that Milton still had the special day that he deserved.
Do you have a neighbour who’s reaching a birthday milestone? Maybe you could show them some birthday love like Milton’s neighbors did. Actions can go a long way- though remember to stay safe!
