The best kind of workplace is one in which you feel close to your coworkers. In a way, your colleagues are like your family. You see them every day, they are a constant through thick and thin, and you weather the different seasons together. You’ll never guess what these coworkers did for their colleague in need.

Derrick is a hard working man who grew up in Alabama. He got a job working for UPS, where he became a diligent employee. Even though Derrick gave his job his best effort, he still faced a major setback: he didn’t have a car to drive to work. The young man walked 5 miles from his home to his job and back each day.

When Derrick’s coworkers found out about this difficult circumstance, they decided they wanted to do something to help their friend. They slowly began to pool together money. Eventually, they saved up enough to buy Derrick his own car. These men proved that they really cared about their coworker family.

When they were finally ready to present the car to Derrick, everyone gathered together to watch his reaction. After a general staff meeting, one man called Derrick to the front of the group. The man began to explain what was happening to the young boy. “The group, management, and the fellows here – we’ve got some good people out here.” He shared that they all felt sympathetic toward Derrick and wanted to help him.

The man handed the car keys over to Derrick, saying, “Everybody came together and you don’t have to walk [anymore]. You’ve got your own ride.” Derrick could not have been more grateful. He cried tears of joy as he realized what his coworkers had done for him.

“If I could, I would go around and thank everybody one by one,” the young man said to the crowd. “This is really going to change a lot for me, so thank you again.”

Everyone clapped as Derrick’s Jeep pulled up. In this moment, the team had come together as a family to help a friend in need. It is touching that a big company like UPS can be a home to such camaraderie.

The Jeep definitely meant a huge change for Derrick. The young man shared with Daily Mail that he had been working since he was fourteen to help out his family. His mother was sick and could not work, so Derrick raised money to pay the bills. His new car would save him hours in walking time.
