Sometimes, the people who are supposed to love us the most can be the ones to break our trust and hurt us in ways we never even imagined. That’s exactly what happened to one woman, who was held captive and abused in her own home for several days by her husband. Fortunately, with the help of a UPS driver, she managed to escape.
Police at Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri received a call from a UPS driver after he’d collected a package from a home in Robertsville. He’d taken a look at the side of the package after getting it back to his truck and found the phrase ‘Call 911’ written on the side.
The message had been written a woman in the home, desperately hoping that the driver would see her plea for help and send the police to set her free.
It turned out that the woman was being held captive in her own home by her husband, 33-year-old James Jordan. The woman claimed that Jordan had physically and sexually assaulted her, punching her, dragging her around by her hair, and threatening to kill her.
He also had firearms on the property, and the woman feared for her life if she tried to escape. She wasn’t the only captive either. The couple’s 3-year-old child was also locked in his room, left without food or water for 15 hours while the abuse was ongoing.
The abuse went on until the UPS driver arrived at the home. Jordan held a gun to his wife’s head and threatened to kill her and himself if she dared say anything to the driver. She knew that it was her best chance of escape, but couldn’t risk simply yelling or screaming with her armed husband watching on, so she managed to secretly write her message on the box before handing it over.
The driver, upon seeing the message, immediately called up the cops, who later praised him for his role in the incident. UPS also issued a statement regarding the driver:
We are grateful this UPS driver with more than a decade of service followed protocol when he saw a customer in distress and contacted authorities after he saw her message to contact 9-1-1. Our drivers are very familiar with their routes, and are trained to be aware of their surroundings and respond to requests for assistance.
A SWAT team then raided the house, taking Jordan into custody. He has since been charged with domestic assault, sodomy without consent, unlawful use of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, and felonious restraint.
Police later confirmed that the child was unharmed, while Jordan’s wife has revealed the shocking full extent of what happened in the hours leading up to his arrest. She was made to suffer awful abuse, but thankfully, through her own quick thinking, she escaped the situation before it got any worse. Learn more about the story in the clip below.
