While Uber has faced some negative backlash on the corporate level lately, the human to human interactions the service brings can truly make for special moments. One driver was given the chance to save a man who asked to be dropped off at a nearby bridge.

Florida-based Uber driver Chad Farley recently saved the life of an unnamed man who was planning on committing suicide later that evening. Farley picked the man up and could immediately tell that the man was in a dark place mentally and emotionally.

“The Bible says a broken spirit, we can bear that, and that’s what he was, a broken spirit,” Farley told local news team WFLA.“This guy was obviously in trouble. He was obviously in trouble. This guy was just told that ‘you got brain cancer.’”

The late night passenger asked to be dropped off at the nearby Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which, at its peak, sits about 200 feet above the water. Farley immediately grew suspicious.

He decided he would try to pray with the passenger, and Farley Skyway’s North Pier parking area, where the two sat together to say some words.

“What surprised me is when I completed my prayer, he started praying, but his prayer was very awkward. Jumbled,” Farley continued to explain to WFLA. “He didn’t know what to say, but it was like he was trying. Talk about a broken spirit, you know?”

He also managed to convince the man to let him take a picture, using the excuse that he wanted to remember their encounter. I said ‘you know what? I want to remember you. Can I take a picture?’”

After the man left the car, Farley immediately called 911 and sent the photo of the man to authorities. Moments later, the Florida Highway Patrol met with Farley, and then found the man in the water, where they quickly jumped in to save him.

The man is currently being treated, but Farley hopes to one day reconnect with him soon.

“Like a chess piece…a chess board. He put everybody in their place to do His will and as an end result the guy is alive. That’s it. You know,” he finally ponders about the entire event.

Sometimes it’s amazing how much a stranger can help impact a life, and as always, there are ways to get help even in the darkest hours. While this man still has a lot to battle, we hope he receives the mental and physical treatments he needs to lead a long and fruitful life ahead.
