What makes dancing a fun hobby as well as a recreational sport is that itโs always fun. Itโs fun because not only itโs a way of expressing ourselves through creative body movements, but itโs also a way of letting you be free of stress and worries when youโre on the dance floor. Grand Nationals 2017 Shag dance junior champions Mack West and Trinity Davis make dancing feel just as fun even in a serious competition.

During the annual National Shag Dancing Championships (NSDC) thatโs usually held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, West and Davis signed up to compete at the Junior 1 Division in 2017. The competition is a three-day event, comprising almost over 50 competitors in six different divisions. It really gives you the pressure to think that this overwhelming number of contestants are all skilled dancers. Despite that, this dancing duo has the resolve to show everyone what they got.
Look at how these two made their routine look so casual

The announcer finally called them up, and the two, brimming with confidence, walked towards their stage more than ready to bust a move. They stood in place, waited for their groovy Swing music to start, and at the moment that it finally did, the audience already canโt keep their eyes off them as theyโre already caught by their entrancing spell. Their routine looks so much fun, that even you might want to jump in with them.
This boy got some slick moves to show

Youโd eventually find yourself addicted to watching West as the male lead in this performance. He does have some seamless footwork, but he also knows how to heat things up with his slides, hops, and kicks.

He had a lot of moments where he showed off his moves, and every bit of it is just amazing and it wowed the audience even more.
That doesnโt mean his partner is just playing the support role

Davis is as equally great of a dancer as her partner, West. She was to match her partnerโs energy while doing their routine, and all that she did with a big smile on her face. Davisโs gracefulness paved the way to give enough room for his partnerโs spotlight while including herself in it.
Shag dancing is all about the timing and the synchronization

In this kind of dance, communication is an important key to pulling it off. This male-led two-person dance allows room for improvisation and communication makes that easy to achieve. These two definitely had that key when they performed their piece.

From start to finish, they were able to follow through with their routine without it falling apart. Their solid chemistry created the perfect mix of seamless and fun in their performance.
Thatโs why theyโre the 2017 Junior 1 grand champions

The duo ended their performance with a hug of relief, knowing that they did both their parts very well. At the end of the competition, the two were crowned as the champions in their division.
They re-entered the competition a year later, and guess what, they won first place again!
In 2018, West and Davis teamed up again to grab the trophy in the Shag dancing competition. Thereโs a Facebook post that said that West was 14 and Davis 13 when they competed in 2018. The post also mentioned that they had only been dancing for two and a half years at the time. The two were already a formidable duo in their performance in the 2017 NSDC event, and to think they were still pre-teens when they competed.
