Life is just full of surprises. You never know what each day will hold, and sometimes those surprises aren’t exactly great, but other times, they’re simply wonderful! Shoppers at this Georgia Walmart were in for a very special treat when two strangers met up in one of the aisles and burst into song!
Cassandra Turner Nelson was doing some daily grocery shopping and humming a little tune at the Alpharetta Walmart when a stranger stopped her. He’d noticed her humming and wanted to see what her singing voice was like.
That man was Donnell Cross. He’d never met Cassandra before, but something about her seemed special, and as a singer and music lover himself, he decided to try and make some magic happen.
“I’m going to go over there and mess with this lady,” Donnell said to his friend, heading over and asking Cassandra if she wanted to sing a song with him.
He asked if she knew the beautiful ‘If This World Were Mine’ by Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn. Cassandra confirmed that she knew the song, so Donnell broke out into song, revealing his beautiful voice for all those in the canned goods aisle to hear.
Cassandra stayed silent at first, smiling politely and listening to Donnell’s voice, before joining in and revealing a powerful singing ability of her own.
As soon as she started to sing, Cassandra really took the song to a whole new level. You see, what Donnell didn’t know was that he’d just walked up to a woman with a long family history of singing.
Cassandra’s dad was the late Norris Turner, a leading gospel singer and preacher, and she’s been singing all her life. She works as a comp adjuster, but always enjoys singing whenever she gets a chance, and she definitely wasn’t going to pass up such a great opportunity to share a song with another talented singer.
Gradually, as the two talented performers made their way through the song, a small crowd started to form around them, with people filming the scene on their phones and grinning happily at the display.
In a later interview, Cassandra revealed she was a little nervous that they might get kicked out of the store, but when she saw the smiling crowd, she knew she just couldn’t stop!
Finally, as the song ended, Cassandra and Donnell shared a hug and enjoyed the applause of their audience. With that, they went their separate ways, both assuming that the story would end there. However, when a video of the duet was posted online, it caught the attention of rapper and R&B star Common, who shared it with all his followers, sending the story viral!
After that, Cassandra and Donnell got invited onto the Strahan, Sara, and Keke morning show and actually got an all-expenses paid trip to NYC to perform as part of Common’s show! Cassandra says she hopes that those who see the video will take an interest in gospel music, and this wonderful chance encounter has already inspired countless people worldwide!
