When the Morgan twins sang the first notes of Alicia Keys’ song, “Fallin'”, The Voice US judges Blake Shelton and Usher quickly pushed their buttons. And when their chairs turned around, they didn’t expect to see twins in front of them on stage.
Cara and Rhian Morgan from Rochester, NY dazzled the judges with their voices and their harmony.
The other judges, Shakira and Adam Levine, took their time and wanted to make sure before they decided to push their buttons or not. Blake and Usher continued to enjoy the Morgan twin’s performance.
With their usual bromance, they taunted Adam until Adam finally pushed his button.
Of course, in true Blake fashion, he screamed when Adam did.
What about Shakira? Will she push her button? Will her chair turn around?
With ten seconds left of their performance, Shakira finally pushed her button. With her chair finally turned around, this performance is only one of two four-chair turns in season 4 of The Voice US.
When the judges gave their feedback, Usher had to congratulate them for having the voice to make all four chairs turn around. And he
For Adam, he loved listening to them sing together.
“When I was listening to your unison notes together, I was like, that’s DNA,” Adam said of Cara and Rhia’s harmony.”
Shakira agreed instantly.
“Yeah, [you] sounded like one voice with a chorus effect,” Shakira said. “That’s why I had to ask [Adam] if [you] were a duo.”
Despite their strong arguments though, Cara and Rhian had to make a choice whose team to be on.
It looked like Blake’s argument about family working in the same business worked!
The Morgan twins, Cara and Rhian, were born in Stevenage, England but they moved to Rochester, NY, when they were only a year old. Now 27 years old, they have been performing since they were 11 years old.
And they credit all those years of performing together for learning how to harmonize well together.
When they were 14, they formed their own girl band called It’s My Party and sang with the group for a couple of years in their hometown. When they were 17, they auditioned for American Idol and went through to the Hollywood rounds.
They were eliminated on American Idol when they wouldn’t compete as individual singers.
Since then, they have continued to sing in different events throughout Rochester, including opening for LeAnn Rimes’ Rochester concert. They’ve also sung the National Anthem at multiple hockey games in Rochester and at Buffalo Bills NFL games.
All this while they’re studying for their advanced degrees. Cara works as a mental health therapist while Rhian works in the insurance industry.
Although they sang an R&B song for their audition, they’ve actually been performing mostly country rock music in Rochester.
This is one of the reasons they picked Blake Shelton as their coach on The Voice US.
And, although they were aware of the “duo curse” on The Voice US, they didn’t care. They’re each other’s security blanket and they motivate each other on stage.
In the first three seasons of The Voice US, there hasn’t been a duo who has made it past the battle rounds. Unfortunately, they still haven’t broken the curse when they didn’t make it past the battle rounds.
